Redtiger VC 70

A few weeks ago RedTiger sent over their VC70 and the included hardwire kit for testing. Below I will attempt to share some details and footage of the dash camera.

What is included in the box:

• 12v Ciagrette lighter to usb c cable
• Usb c Rear camera cable

• Allen Key ( to loosen or tighten the mount on the front cam)
• Plastic installation tool
• Extra Windshield mount
• Replacement adhesive pads

The hardwire kit comes in a separate package and includes several different fuse sizes, the actual hardwire adaptor, manual, adhesive pad and an install tool.

The presentation of everything was in line with what you would expect from premium products.

Installation was straight forward with both the cigarette lighter adaptor and the hard wire kit. I installed the hardwire kit to both my fuse box and a 70mai battery pack for testing. Works as expected in both scenarios. The front cam has an adjustable lens which is a nice touch if you want to adjust viewing angle later or didn’t get the install quite right. Having the removable mount was also awesome. I was able to easily switch vehicles and use the same camera because the cables are already setup in both vehicles.

The hardwire kit displays the voltage when in parking mode and shows “ACC” once the ignition is on. It also has a few voltage protection that can be utilized.

Parking mode is on par with other cameras with time lapse and collision detection. It appears to be responsive with me triggering the impacts artificially as well.

The rear cam usb c cable was thicker than the front cam usb c. I would have liked it to be similar size for easier installation but I assume its for better transmission.

The touch screen is very responsive but it can be controlled with the buttons if you prefer. Playback is very smooth while viewing footage from the cam itself. You can also use the advanced wifi 6 that uses 5.8 GHz to connect the camera to the phone. The app is simple and easy to use. You can see the live view and view footage of saved files. I liked the fact that you can see the gps and speed plus trace the gps route overlayed on a map from the saved videos. There is also a pc app from Red Tiger that does the same once you remove the sd card and insert it into a pc.

Please be advised that my front and back windshields are tinted so take that into account when viewing the footage. The tint on my front windshield is 80% and the back is 5% ceramic. To be fair, I cant fault the rear cam for the image quality because of the tint, especially at night.

Thanks for sharing the details. Taking a quick look at the sample footage, the front cam looks very much oversharpened. It's also only playing back at 25fps, not 30fps, which is why it looks a bit chunky. I'm glad that they're using an IMX678 and not producing yet another fake 4K dashcam, but I wonder if they've cut corners on the processor which is why they aren't doing 30fps. The rear video quality is quite poor and it definitely struggles with plate capture, despite the resolution. Thus far I have yet to be impressed with any videos from Omnivision sensors.
