Hi Folks and a Happy New Year to All,

I have changed my car to a Hybrid and took the F770 out before replacing the old car, I would like to use the F770 as a standalone Dashcam using the cars charging port for camera warning while driving, and have read that I need to connect the red and yellow cables together, I would like to use the old very long used hardwired cable by attaching a car port charging plug to the end of it.

I do have a couple of charging plugs and a collection of glass fuses but can't find the rating that the fuse should be, also some of the spare plugs I have don’t have any circuit boards in them so are not regulated.

So my questions are, should the plug contain a regulated board, and if not what is the fuse rating, or do I need to buy the plug and play cable from Thinkware. I can't find the fuse rating on the website which doesn't help when a fuse blows.

Thanks in advance,
James.

The glass fuse should be 2 amps. There's no clever electronics in the cigar plug cables as the actual Dash Cam is 12v/24v anyway. We do sell the cables here https://thinkwaredashcam.eu/product/plugandplaypowercable/
@Maddog1974.

Thanks for your quick reply and confirming that it only needs a no circuitry cigar plug, I was hoping to do the soldering myself and changing the length of cable to my needs because the F770 was bought in 2018 so must be getting past its life expectancy by now, if it had been a newer model I would be happy to just buy another cable.

The following info may be useful to anyone in a similar position to me.

I did some testing if the yellow and red cables being connect was OK by connecting them to a spare 12v car battery via some crocodile clips and had the F770 running on DC for about 15 minutes or so before posting. I noticed that within this time the GPS was in searching mode and that I could connect to the F770 Wifi and it was making continuous recordings and tapping the unit resulting in an event recording. My car has a 10A power output and it is only active when running on ACC, so OK for use while driving and should cutout when the ignition is switch off.

Thanks again for your help Maddog.

James.
