Review: Elephone ELE Explorer 4K Ultra HD WiFi Action Camera

Elephone and Gearbest can lie about specifications but dashcamtalk users should not. We should not promote the companies which are lying with important features like MP of sensor like the just to sell their product.

So is it not 16MP, or is it not an OV 4689?

To me, the 4K images look too good to be coming from a 4MP OV4689, so maybe they have listed the wrong sensor?

Night video screenshots @ 1080p 60fps:
Night video is pretty good as well.

Almost hit a guy. Why do people flung the door open like that?
Snow already made the roads so narrow.
I think I touched his hair and there was no room to go to the left.

Night Videos:
1. Camry trying to turn right but no one gave way on the right turn lane so it turned from no turn lane.
Audio replaced.

2. Almost hit a guy @ 1:45. Why do people flung the door open like that?
Snow already made the roads so narrow.
I think I touched his hair and there was no room to go to the left.
Original audio.

Appears to be able to read plates at night too - is the car in front of you in the 2nd frame grab in that last set using his signature as a license plate?

No, that's dealers' logo where it was recently bought and a temp license tag should be inside the window somewhere.
Edit: I think I can read it. It's Larry Miller Toyota something...

Yeah its strange ppl do that, when i want to enter my car at the roadside i just stop in front of my door and then look at oncomming traffic to tell them i have seen you and dont plan to do somthing stupid.
And since i am allso standing in the street i watch the cars closest to me to be ready to jump in case some one else is about to do somthing stupid.
Some times i can see on ppl thats not what they expect for me to do, but i have done my share of stupid so nowdays i try to keep that at a minimum.

Looks like screengraps is taken at places where the speed is low.

Overall, pretty good for the price.
4K mode looks choppy due to 15fps but it's great in other resolutions.
Daytime as well as night time videos are pretty good.
Wi-Fi works great.
It is good alternative for drones due to its lightweight and small body.
Works great as dashcam as well with the provided frame but there is no feature to auto start recording.

Night Video looks great.

It can use as a dashcam;)

How about using it on drone? ;)

Will be a good idea.

Yes, I'll try that when the weather gets better.
It's been below freezing this time. Brr...

Just a common chinese style, they dont know what are writing, same BS about „OV” or OV4689 and the fake 16MP on their site:

Maybe are not cheaters with the specs, but some amateurs which are assembling some components.

enjoy,

Sample videos.

2K 30 Fps

1080P 60Fps

anybody knows if can i use usb to av out or only hdmi ?

Can I ask some points of clarification? Currently the Elephone website claims the camera has a Sony IMX image sensor which Sony describes as:
"Diagonal 7.81 mm (Type 1/2.3)
approx. 12.40M-effective pixels
(4072H × 3046V)"

Elephone also says it has the Novatek 96660 chipset. Unusually for a Chinese manufacturer Elephone makes the following disclosure about the 4K video:
"4k (3840*2160) 24FPS(4 k is the effect achieved by chip and sensor software optimization, physical hardware resolution is 2880 * 2160 P)"
Also note the changed frame rate for 4K.

Did the specs changes after you tested the pre-sale model?

EDIT: Oops, I'm referring to the Explorer Pro 4K. Different model?
