Filming, editing, uploading, etc takes time.
But of course @Vortex Radar makes it looks easy because he’s such an organized, seasoned veteran.
He was dearly missed this year.
This was my first, and probably last SEMA.

Quick & Dirty:
I visited all the dash cam booths at the show, (except BlackVue), and there is only one dash cam that excites me, and I think will be a worthy competitor to the Viofo A329 in terms of image quality.
February 1, 2025 Vueroid will release the 2nd generation of the D21 4K.
The current D21 4K is the only worthy competitor to the A229 Pro in my opinion for image quality.
I will have a test sample, along with the previous 1st gen D21 4K for a full test & review.

Outlook for 2025;
Wolfbox / RedTiger: meh
Vantrue: meh
Thinkware: meh
BlackVue: did not visit booth
FineVu: meh
Vugera: meh
70mai: did not attend
If I missed other manufacturers let me know.

Would've been nice to know if Blackvue was going to finally release the 3 cam version to the DR970X-2CH Box Ir like they said they would from SEMA 23. Or maybe VIOFO would throw some hints on what's next. And what direction they're going in.

Chuck’s minimum requirements for SEMA 2025 (Sunday-Friday);
1.) $260 Super Shuttle Airport (round trip)
2.) $500 Airfare
3.) $500 Hotel
4.) $500 Rental Car / Gasoline / Parking
5.) $100 Monorail Pass / Other Transportation
6.) $200 Mobility Scooter Rental
7.) $300 Food
Basically it all comes down to money.
If I get sponsored with a $2,500 cash award, I’ll be there with bells on.

This time I drove my personal vehicle, (1,272 Miles / 2,000km round trip).
I spent $250 on gasoline.
@rcg530 was my savior for letting me sleep & shower in his hotel room for 2 days, (I owe him big time).
My original plan was to sleep in my car, and take pommie showers.
$60 Parking.
$15 Monorail 24 hour pass
$100 Food

Driving down I made it in 10 hours with one 30 minute refuel in Bakersfield.
And one 45 minute stop to take a nap in Barstow, (fell asleep at wheel).

Coming back up it took 14 hours because I kept stopping to take naps.
I fell asleep at the wheel around 5 times.
I have dash cam footage from (two) A229 Pro IR Interior cameras showing me nodding off at the wheel.
I need to figure out how to blur my face so I can upload the videos.

Oh yeah, leaving Las Vegas at midnight, there was a dust storm with 40-60MPH crosswinds at the CA/NV border.
I had 10-20 feet of visibility, and had to slow down to 25MPH.
Luckily I was the only car on the road for miles in both directions.
I just had to worry about tumble weeds 3 feet in diameter blowing across the highway.
I don’t have footage of the dust storm because it got overwritten.
I need to ask Viofo to send me (4) 512GB SD Cards.

Damn that is pricey if you do airfares - it's no better here in Australia either tbh. You'd have to be sponsored by a company unfortunately but at least you made it
 
If it's for one or two clips, you can also send it to me and I'm happy to help motion track and blur as needed. 🙂
 
Bro i don't see the need to upload a blurred out or unblurred out video of you nodding off at the wheel. It's one of those things that you know happened , now we know it happened, it's happened to most of us but we don't need video proof of it . Count your blessings and move on. I've been there many many times and it's never a proud moment , more less an uploadable moment. JMO.

I agree with this, we've all been there, we don't need to see it . Just be glad yourself and no one else on the road was injured and move forward

So I watched the video twice over and finished with no real answers. My two vendors of interest were just Viofo and Blackvue and my main question would of been to 1. VIOFO, are you planning on going way of seperating the cams from the main unit like the Blackvue box series and any LTE plans and 2. Blackvue, are you going to follow through on that 4K/2K 3 cam IR version of box series. I guess all vendors could've been asked that question. But nevertheless more new info to keep us talking and much appreciation to the guys that go out there. I Like that VIOFO is getting into the battery biz .

You have to ask though why Blackvue went to box solution etc, was it to decrease the strain on the main unit and to reduce heat? If so, then newer processors that are starting to come in (like on the A329) should alleviate those problems etc.

Boxes are only going to add to the BOM for a product, which will then be passed onto the customer in the form of increased price. Not sure every customer will want to deal with even more unwieldy components for a dashcam install ....

I can understand why they're tight lipped, especially to little 'ole me. lol

Aside from them keeping the traditional cam, I think BV went way of the Box because they know it's only so much you can pack into a traditional dashcam . Also it reduces the footprint on the windshield. It's the reasonable way to go. It's never my position to totally evolve from dashcams but having options is always a plus. Once you start going to 2+ cams , box series installments becomes similar.
