So SEMA starts again soon, Nov 4-7 this year, and it looks like there's a bunch of dashcam-related companies who'll be there. I may have missed some companies, but here's who I'm seeing on the exhibitor list so far:
  • 70mai
  • Blackvue
  • Car Mate / Razo
  • Cedar (Escort / Cobra)
  • Dongar
  • FineVu
  • Garmin
  • GNET
  • Nextbase
  • OCD Tronic
  • Rexing
  • Rydeen
  • Tanlink (Red Tiger / Wolfbox)
  • Thinkware
  • Type S
  • Vantrue
  • Viofo
  • Vueroid
Plus there'll be a bunch of other random smaller companies there too I'm sure. Luckily almost all these companies will be in the Mobile Electronics section of the North Hall which'll make it much easier to visit all the companies.

Who all is also going this year? Getting to see people there is always one of the best parts. 🙂

Hopefully there's a bunch of cool stuff released that we don't yet know about. As far as new dashcams that I'm looking forward to checking out, there's things like the 70mai A810S, Blackvue hopefully releasing a 4K Elite series model, the Thinkware U3000 Pro and new add-ons, etc.

So excited to see the gang again.
I’m bringing my A119M Pro to get some neat test footage like last year with the A329 2CH.
I just hope we get the official public firmware update in time, (just like the oversharpenning update on the A329 2CH last year). lol
You can see our restaurant at 1:18 in the video.

I wish A119M Pro had an optional suction cup so I could stick it on the airplane window to film my flight.
I guess I will just hold it.
Don’t forget to adjust your clocks for DST Nov 2 yikes!

If this is to be believed, the A810S doesn't look to be much of an upgrade 🙁, going on the chipset https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threa...nything-about-our-dash-cams.57055/post-657080

Wish I could be there at SEMA, got the invite months ago but I have travelled so many other places in the world this year. So I can't get any more time off...work will kill me haha

So I’m at the show now and can share some info that’s on display. I could always start new threads for each one and maybe that’s better, but for now I’ll just snap some photos and post them here. 🙂

First up, Thinkware and their new dashcams and accessories:

Nice, have fun!
Dumping everything in this thread to have all the SEMA relevant information sounds good.

Is that an A119 V3 on display? Still going strong.

Vantrue is here too.

They’ve got some really cool stuff in the pipeline, not all of which is being released yet.

As far as current stuff, they’ve got a bunch of cams on display… the multichannel stuff, S1 series, E360, E1 Pro, etc.

Apparently there’s recently been a firmware update for their models to help speed up the collision detection wake up times, including in low power parking mode. Something to test later.

Their LTE module had some connection reliability issues so they recently released an updated version that should help with stability.

Now their most interesting one is a new thermal camera called the Pilot 2.

IMG_7413.webp

It has this camera that you install on your hood, in a protective rubber case, and it helps you see people and animals at night.

You can also remove the rubber cover and install the small thermal camera in your grill. I’d prefer that for aesthetic reasons and it’s where I’ve seen other thermal cams go, but it can see better with a higher mount up on the hood.

Here is the thermal camera in the mount clamped to the hood.

Here’s Vueroid. They’ve got the S1 2K which is basically a lower res version of the S1 4K.

They also have a blind spot camera system with a huge display for truckers. It also has AI object detection to help alert them to vehicles in their blind spots.

If the advertising materials reflect their attention to detail, then I'll give them a wide berth.
It may seem petty but if they can't get it right at a shopfront show, then what other sloppiness is getting through?

Blackvue. So the big news is their new Elite 9 and Elite 10. They’re the new 4K/2K (Elite 9) and 4K/4K (Elite 10) versions, stepping up from the 2K/2K Elite 8.

They all get HDR on the front cams, but you only get HDR on the rear 2K cams. For that reason, I think the Elite 9 will actually be a better choice than the Elite 10 since 4K in the rear isn’t a huge deal, but HDR back behind is.

Also, funny note, the Elite 9 has a brownish ring around the front cam lens like the 970X, but the Elite 10 has a red ring like a Canon L lens. 🙂

IMG_7430.webp

There’s a new Novatek processor instead of Sigmastar and so the video quality is now way better than the DR970X like both day and night.

It looks like the Elite series will be replacing the DR970X Plus which will be discontinued.

The new Safy (pronounced SAFE-ee) is their new sub-brand and they decided to make it a new name since it’s so different than the traditional Blackvues. New form factor, LCD on the rear, chrome buttons, no cloud, etc. it uses a 4K Starvis IMX415 for the front cam. Rear cam is a 1080p GalaxyCore.

IMG_7435.webp

As for some other cams..

IMG_7434.webp

The 770 will get a new DMS II interior cam and have a newer chip to help with AI to monitor the driver.

The future of the box series is questionable. They’re not sure if they’re gonna continue making it.

Madness. Really don’t understand BlackVue’s thinking on this…

Have to say though, I had a feeling they were going lukewarm…When I first started researching what took top-end dashcam I wanted, I was all over the 970 Plus Box – just seemed the perfect fit (and literally!) in many ways…But then I started looking and researching closer – the lack of HDR and no firmware update like the other 970 models rang alarm bells – enquiries on it all to various BV support contacts felt cold and rang even more alarm bells….
Alas, unfortunately, BlackVue seem to be in my rear mirror now….

Still, where BV have stumbled I have a feeling a certain other brand will carry forward the Box format in the not too distant future – hopefully pushing the optics and inherent attributes upwards….🤞

Wolfbox has their RVM dashcams.

Surprisingly for the G900 Pro v2, they said they switched the rear cam from an IMX675 to and Omnivision sensor for improved rear video at night. I would have expected it to be the other way around. Apparently they have sample footage comparing the two to show the differences. Could someone dig that up?

They also have a new off-roading camera.

IMG_7443.webp

This one has digital image stabilization to help with bumpy roads.

On the Redtiger side, they had a lot of their usual dashcams.

IMG_7447.webp

One new one is the VisionPano 40 that’s a 4CH model with two side facing interior cams.

Curious about the VIOFO battery pack. But concerned about it having issues with cold winter temps. I can not keep any of those Lithium battery based battery jumpers/boosters in my car due to the cold temps killing them. Often is sub-Zero F temps here during winter. So, not sure if battery pack would be ideal in cold climates.

I find exciting:
  • @viofo's new battery pack with Bluetooth looks very interesting. Similar to their new hardwire kits with the Bluetooth. Looks like it can be extended to multiple batteries
  • Vantrue's new thermal camera. I tested a thermal dashcam a while back, but Vantrue's looks much more discreet. I hope I get to test this one @Jeff_Vantrue !
Thank you for sharing @Vortex Radar

What is this device on the Vantrue stand?

Don't think the original v1 G900 Pro ever had an imx675, maybe they mean imx335 upgrade to the OmniVision. Which on paper seemed a competitor to Starvis 2 imx675 but didn't end up so well

Interesting they want to use digital image stabilisation, cos that means EIS, so an image crop basically. Comes at the cost of resolution

It does say timer on it and very likely shows the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack below the text.
Maybe a lap timer or something?

I was intrigued by the shape, like it's trying to be aerodynamic.
