Funny, it seems that I have more Vantrue cameras installed in my car than the "official" Vantrue logo vehicle does 🤣
I only see one camera system there... 😉

They’ve got a lot of their existing stuff like the 4K Omni and T800.

They’ve also have the new A810S which is coming out soon. 4K Starvis 2 for the front and a Chinese 1080p sensor for the rear. I like that they’ve switched to a supercap and they can do 4K30 in 2CH mode now. No buffered parking recording, but it has optional LTE. It’ll be available in Dec at the same price as the A810.

It has this camera that you install on your hood, in a protective rubber case, and it helps you see people and animals at night.

You can also remove the rubber cover and install the small thermal camera in your grill. I’d prefer that for aesthetic reasons and it’s where I’ve seen other thermal cams go, but it can see better with a higher mount up on the hood.

With authorization from @Jeff_Vantrue (who had previously requested confidentiality) I'm expecting to have one of these in hand within the next few weeks. I'm VERY curious to explore the thermal imaging capabilities. I'm happy to hear about the flexibility concerning the mounting of the thermal camera, this should provide some interesting options. Thanks for the close up images! Super excited to play with this one!
 
I am looking into thermal too, but i have to admit for more precise / deadly application ( scope )

It is pretty cool stuff though, but even getting up to just old school SD resolution and you are already looking at a small fortune, at least out of a Danish pension.

I have also wondered for a long time, if a camera was black / white only, would that be able to make low light plate capture even better / more of a for sure thing.
CUZ if that was the case i think i would want that, even in this high def / color day and age.
Of course only talking night time here, in the day i for sure want color.

I'm definitely looking forward to hearing what you find when you test it! IIRC, it should be able to alert to things about 60m away, then as you get closer and it can make things out better, it can better classify what the different objects are. One thing I was wondering if that is sufficient warning to get an alert to something like a deer in the road and hit the brakes. I'm also curious about the audible alarms, and how viable it is to tuck away the display if you don't want a big screen on your dash, and just listen to alerts audibly. I'm not sure if there's different audible warnings between people and animals.
 
When I tried out the Thermaltake NV300 it had AI overlays for animals and pedestrians. It was also interesting seeing how hot parked cars were as it was easy to see if they had recently been used. I'll be very interested to see Vantrue's. They have already shown they have AI for distracted driver detection etc so they may have lots of cool features.

If an alert driver sees a deer in the road on a dry day when driving at 50mph, the stopping distance may be estimated at approx 55m. That's 15m for a very good reaction time of 0.75s, plus 40m braking distance.

If the thermal camera takes 0.75s to recognise the deer and sound a warning, and our alert driver takes a further 0.75s to react to the warning, the stopping distance is now 15+15+40=70m

Interesting concept but not convinced of its application just yet. The million dollar question is whether it's a) useful and b) it is better than in-built ADAS on a vehicle. I suspect it's market may be quite limited if it can't succeed at both
 
I am also wondering, if livestock in pens alongside the road will give false readings, i assume so CUZ there is really nop way to distinguish and for damn sure not with a " cheap " low resolution sensor.

A few years ago during a dry spell here, driving home late and so in darkness, i came upon a horse in the roadside ditch eating the better than in its field vegetation there.
Sadly i never saved that footage.
those horses also gone now and really passing then often i dont think they was looked after properly.
 
There are a lot of people who have had issues with things like deer jumping into the road, and would pay for devices that help mitigate it, like this dashcam if it alerts the driver, noise makers on car etc. Two friends have destroyed their car on animals on the road.
 
Indeed.

My friends sister hit a deer on the way home a few months ago, took months to get her car fixed so she was in a loner car for a while.
And it wasent even that bad, but a bout of incompetence hit too, so shop installing a copy part, well the car did not like that so they had to source a original ASO.

I am amazed it is OK to put used parts on a car, CUZ it is not like my insurance get cheaper the longer i have had it and not used it, they are ripping us off.

I'm curious about this as well. For me, the useful scenario would be a heads up about deer on the side of the road as I'm approaching so I can slow down and be a bit more cautious. If a deer decides to just run out across the road, no amount of alarm will allow anyone to react quickly enough (at highway speed) to stop a car before a collision happens. I'm also curious about audible alarms. My dash is leather so adhesive mounts to secure a display screen on the dash could be problematic. Additionally, some locations/jurisdictions prohibit additional screens that are not NAV systems.

Yep, this is exactly my interest. Lots of deer around here. And with winter coming, lots more driving in darkness will happen. The timing on Vantrue's part is excellent! 🙂

I think specs on my car indicate 70 to 0mph distance as 150ft. The critical variables comes down to driver attention and reaction time.
 
@Vortex Radar with your radar detector knowledge, that camera I'm sure you would be best suited to test it out. If you have time lol.
As far a wild animals we also have deer but wombats are a real buggar to see when they are on the road and they are like hitting a large rock causing all sorts of possible accidents.
The other one is our Wallabies (smaller relatives) Wallaroos medium-sized Kangaroo (for clarity. They are not technically all Kangaroos)

If a Kangaroo jumps out on you – your car is done for..!
Where I am, in the hills outside of Perth, I find it hard to believe some fancy radar tech is really going to prevent an incident – lots of curvy roads, blind corners, thick bush and trees and they have a nasty habit of being most active at dusk, just that amount of low light where they blend into the road verge in stealth mode!
Some years back I had a very close call at night, driving home in a week old new car – it was actually my wife who saw the Roo and shouted out, if she hadn’t it might have been a different outcome…
You’re actually lucky if you see them before it’s too late – so tech reaction times in addition to driver reaction times seems a moot point to me….

Besides, Radars are banned in WA…Annoyingly! – I have the speeding fines to prove it! 😳

If i am ever going driveabout in Australia, i will be renting a solid car.

AND ! is something happen with the car,,,,,, DONT leave the car.
