Ok @dirkzelf as requested here is the Mobius A lens vs the SJ4000 at night

Mobius A lens
Firmware: v0.59
1080/30 WDR On
No color correction, the rest of the settings on default.

SJ4000
Firmware: 2014110729V02
1080/30 HDR On
No color correction, the rest of the settings on default

I used the cameras basically as I am running them everyday, except turning HDR on the SJ. Normally I leave it off, since I feel it has little or no effect. I recorded at a location that has a mix of lights and sections without any street lights and I think should offer a good example of night time performance.

I assumed that was going to be the B lens that was winning there - so the B lens would be even better again!

The Mobius has had a lot of work put into it over time though, and it looks like it's paid off.

This could all change rapidly when they release the Ambarella SJ5000 - depending what sensor it has in there I guess.

Keep in mind that this test was done with an almost year old firmware. V0.59 came with the camera when I bought it. There is no doubt that the Mobius development team, through a lot of hard work, made a ton of improvements. Unfortunately many feel that it was at the expense of night time performance. As you can see, v0.59 is pretty good at night and to me, is the sweet spot in all the firmware versions. I have yet to test v2.18 so it may have improved. My next comparison is the Mobius firmware v2.18 vs. the SJ4000 WIFI.

Sorry I was thinking more in terms of the lens - Niko showed that the B lens has better night performance than the A lens, but even the A lens beat the SJ4000 here.

I went back to 0.47 I think as well and that was ok - I just had a problem with it not starting with the car - it's all swings and roundabouts I guess.

I think it depends on which firmware version has the improvement you want or need the most. Thanks to the development team for so many choices.

Well, thanks for the comparison! It's clear to me that Mobius does better at night.I use 2.18,. and I'm not dissappointed, I think this one has it all..... :)

I had to return back the wide angle lens since I could not get a full focus, sharp in the middle, and unsharp at corners (mostly right lower corner).

I'm using webcam mode, follow the license plate. If I focussed rigt lower corner, then the middle was blurry....

Hopefully I can receive the new lens soon......:D

Besides, what's the wifi update (RCGROUPS mobius thread) used for? I can't really figure it out.............:(

Euhm, the wide lens seems to give a more reddish result, like the SJ4000 above, I wonder what the new lens is going to do here.....

There will be two versions of SJ5000, both use better sensor and lens, better video quality.

When will they be released? Are the specs available yet?
