If it's using the OmniVision OV4689 sensor then the photos would only ever max out at 4Mpixels and anything higher is interpolated.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new Novatek 96660 in action though - competition for Ambarella again :)

That's what I like to hear mate :D

There are some real pictures of SJ4000 Plus

I just finished composing my video review on the Blackview Hero 2 action cam you guys sent to me for testing, now just waiting for the upload process to YouTube to be completed. It is so s-l-o-w :(

I am wondering how this SJ4000+'s video compared to the Hero 2? I like the more neutral colour temperature of Hero 2. The video I have seen on SJ4000 is too cold and blue. Is this SJ4000+'s video has similar colour temperature like its older SJ4000?

That sounds good.

Could you offer the link when you finished it?

We will update the SJ4000+ video in next week.

We also will have a try on making comparison video between SJ4000+ and Hero 2.

You can see more details at that time.

Thanks a lot.

Another video of SJ4000 Plus, what do you think about it? :p

It would be nice to see side-by-side comparisons between the SJ4000 and SJ4000+. Stills and video would be useful, including low-light and bright harsh sunny daylight.

doesnt make any sense, why not just buy an SJ5000 ?

Below are couple of SJ4000+ / SJ4000 / SJ5000+ / SJ5000 comparison videos I've just uploaded, hope it helps:

My first thoughts on SJ4000+ is that model cannibalizes SJ5000 (bar "plus") models a bit, as it has roughly the same price tag but better specs (OV4689 sensor and 2K30 / 1080p60 modes). The video quality is really nice at first, yet as @reverend noted above 12M stills seem to be interpolated and look quite nasty when zoomed in. Beware image stabilization feature as videos are getting quite pixelated (interpolated again?!) when this option is turned on! By all other means, including physical appearance, the SJ4000+ is an exact clone of previous SJCAM SJ4000 series meaning waterproof housing and case-free bracket are compatible, the menu layout also seems to be the same.

I'm currently prepping a comparison review of SJ4000+ against SJ4000/SJ5000/SJ5000+, I'll give a shout when it's ready. It will include few more shots, including stills. Stay tuned!

UPDATE:
The SJ4000+ review is ready. It's in Polish yet sample shots and photos should be pretty self-explanatory - you can always Google Translate it too :)

I don't understand the significantly higher price tags for the SJ4000+ and SJ5000 models when compared to the SJ4000. The prices I have seen are about double the price.

Is the 1080/60 mode for real--60 unique frames per second?

2 reasons:
1) Newer sensor and chipset than SJ4000
2) Greed :p

Overall, I like the performance of my SJ4000. If there's one issue, it's shutter speed of 30 fps at regular highway speeds--65 mph or a blink over 100 kph.

The logical shutter speed of 1/30th of a second doesn't freeze much detail of things your are passing by. When you're stopped in traffic, it's very sharp.

I would favor higher framerates over higher resolution any day, but it seems that people get excited about 2K and 4K--never mind the useless low framerates for a dashcam or action-cam at those higher resolutions.
