Solar laptop charger to power a rear camera?

Something like this might be handy to power a rear camera? Could be left on the parcel shelf.

What do you think?

would still have to run a cable to the camera, I think I'd rather just run a discrete power cable to the camera rather than do this, hate for something that large to end up as a projectile in a situation

Fair enough and a good point about it being a projectile. The other thing I was thinking was that a lithium battery in sunlight for long periods could be a fire risk, not what you want in your new car. Hopefully my car has a cig socket in the boot, I'm ~60% sure it does :geek:

If full charging time of the external battery pack takes around 3 hours (charge via power adapter), charging via solar cells will take much longer. Due to this, I think the DVR will consume more juice during DVR parking mode. It's not really a much safer option as the solar cells does not have any fuse device or safety trigger to cut-off any abnormalities.

Might go with a battery pack designed for the job Eg

Will get me started with parking mode without modifying a brand new car. Also suitable as a normal power cut off wire in for the future.
