Is this possible. Going to clean-up the wiring tomorrow and would like to get rid of two giant plugs. There are only two wires in the plug right? Red and Black?

which camera do you have, is it 5v or 12v?

if 5v make sure to keep the converter that's inside the plug

Now sure, how do you tell? By reading the plugs?

All the blackvue cameras run on 12 volt so as long as you dont reverse polarity you will be Ok

IF you dont know what I mean you shouldnt be doing it.

A mulitmeter is the safest and surest way of finding out the voltage and polarity

I just used the connectors and taped the two together so as they cant vibrate apart and tucked them in behind the dash.

That way I can take the wiring out and use the camera in a different car, like a rental if I am on holiday

I got mine hardwired, made a plug and wire assembly and soldered it straight to it. then I use the original plug when i'm on holidays with a renter.
