Hi,

I've been looking for a dashcam for the past few months and can't find anything that meets all my requirements.
Main requirements are good quality video (obviously), full black and small (no need for LCD screen)!

I wonder why there aren't more split units, where the cam is separate from the DVR unit, like the ones from Lukas.
But then I saw an image of it http://dashcamtalk.com/cams/lk-7300g/Lu ... nt%202.jpg and it still looks "huge" compared to the blackvue next to it.

I don't see why I should mount a complete unit on my windshield while all it really needs is the cam (maybe GPS in the mount itself (optional), and the rest of the unit can be in the glovebox.
I can't believe what kind of bulky "new" cams they come up with ... things i'd never want in my car LOL

My top pick currently is the itronics 100 HD ... been looking at the disassembled pictures of it here on the site and wondered if it would be possible to add a 6 feet extension wire between it's tiny cam and where it plugs into the circuitboard.

And then just fabricate a housing for the cam/lens

I'm sure you'll see them in the market soon enough, the installation options are the hardest thing to deal with

It looks totally doable. You'll need to get a matching connector but those look pretty standardized. The housing might be a pain... getting something that looks clean and that you can securely mount on the windshield.

ITB-100HD is a great camera. Check out the bitrate upgrade. Makes the camera tons better!

Thanks for the link! Going to check it out.

As for mounting ... that's another pet peeve, I'm not a fan of double-sided tape mounts in the middle of the windshield (and certainly no sucktion cups either)
I'd either make something that allows me to attach the lens directly to the back of my rearview mirror or even better a mount like those cheap computer mics, placed at the very top the screen

but much smaller, hollow to feed the wire through & upside down so i can swivel the cam out of view when I'm parked in sketchy neighborhood

i know , i'm a dificult person :)

SG is developing a dual-remote lens model but still a long way to production. Until dual cams have a decently high bitrate for both cams all they offer over discrete cams is easier access to the SD card. And they will fill that up at twice the rate of a single cam.

Every cam is a compromise ;)

Thats not where a dashcam should go, it should be up high behind the mirror where you can hardly see it.
But a stealthy install are not always easy, my nice and her BF just got a 2016 Audi A3, and by the looks of it it have limitations, but that dont really matter as they dont want a dashcam, or at least the BF dont want as he is a early 20 YO kid that just reacquired his license as he lost it for driving like a idiot and it would appear like he intend to keep that up.
I am now praying for my nice, and if he hurt her in any way i will fawk him up.
I have also told my nice ( before the new car ) if he drive like a idiot you tell him to pull over at once and let you out, and then you call me.
