Only thing is, I don't know what the low-light is. And whether it will loop.

I think it's clear that the Replay XD 1080p is good in close, but is not nearly as good at distances as the Contour+ 2.

Unfortunately no night videos.

There are lots of high-grade likely candidates on StuntCams.

Hi Quantum,

The Contour cameras look like nice action cams but I don't think they make good dash cams.

From the Contour Information Page: No loop recording.

Loop Recording

Many customers ask if Contour cameras can be set to make loop recording; that is to say can it erase the microSD card and start over when the microSD card gets full. None of the Contour cameras can be configured in this manner. However, based on the number of requests we have received we have passed along this suggestion to our development team for consideration in future updates.

the temperature range seems way too low as well.

Temperatures ranges for Contour cameras

The official operating range of our cameras is -15°C to 40°C (5°F to 104°F). While some customers have successfully used our cameras outside of that range, we cannot guarantee that they will work in extreme conditions.

And this night video does not impress:

The Replay XD 1080p on the other hand has loop recording with the latest firmware from December 2012. I haven't seen any night videos of this as a dash cam though.

You're right that night video is unacceptable. Although that is with the Contour+, not the Contour+ 2. The temp range is fine for us here in the PacNW, but the no looping is also a dealkiller. Shame. I'm sure they'll fix that, but when?

They do have some nice little cameras on StuntCams though.

Thanks for contacting Contour Technical Support. None of the Contour cameras are designed for night use or low light situations. The image processing software in the camera is tuned for maximum performance in everyday outdoor situations.

We do not have any looping features, but our development team is looking in to it.

My mistake Quantum on the video...you are right it isn't the same Contour model. Overall, these look like great sports cams and I'm sure many of them will get loop recording in the future. This will give more choices in the dash cam market.

Hello,

Default settings on the Replay camera are to shut down when the SD card is full, however you can change it to loop record in the advanced settings.

Here are a couple videos in night time:

This video all on board footage is ours

Here is a comparison between some action cameras. You can see that ours far exceeds the others at night:

Hope this helps!

Thank you,
Replay XD

LOL, only the Replay has anything like a decent mike. In the first clip it looks like only a few shots were made from the cars with Replay. And in the second, although it's much better at night than the other three, I'll leave it to DashCamMan's judgment on quality.

The Replay looks the best out of those action cams. Would be interesting to see how it stacks up against some of the Korean cameras like the FineVu CR-500HD. Even though it is bright at night, seeing details is not that great.
