can someone clear a point up for me...

here is the spec of a b40-

http://screencast.com/t/NfksZ36B

note it is quoted as 3mpcoms and AR0330.

Here is the spec of a g1wh-

http://screencast.com/t/lmfcxXTnWrX

again 3mpcoms and i assume as everything is exactly the same as the b40 -AR0330 ?

Here is the spec of a another g1wh.

http://screencast.com/t/SsKUKvPU

note it is quoted as 5mpcoms. This camera performs much better than the 3mpcoms g1wh above and costs more, and has more up to date firmware. It does not get the blueish screen i notice as the light level drops that the 3mpcoms one does.

The technical question is - is it the more recent software making the differance or is it the 5mpcoms sensor and if it is the senssor, why has the b40 been made with the poorer quality sensor ?

I wouldn't take much notice of the specs sometimes mate as they're just saying they can take a picture at that resolution which usually means they're upsampled in software.

The Aptina AR0330 is a 3.5MP sensor with a resolution of 2304x1536, and as far as I know all proper G1W cameras should be using one of those with the Novatek 96650.

The software and lens used all make a difference with these things.

Hi,
Here is the spec of a another g1wh.

Be wary of this camera ad , There is a comment on DashCamTalk.com, someone purchased the G1W listing as having a 500Ah battery, when he received it it was a much smaller battery.

I have always wondered if when they say COMS it's just a typo of CMOS and basically they're all copying and pasting the error?!

no conclusive answer yet...

but i must stress the g1wh quoted as having a 5mpcoms and more expensive is a much better quality picture and the screen not going blue in low light surely indicates the sensor is much improved over the 3mp coms camera.

The only way to prove this seems to be to put the same firmware in the cameras but i have no way to put "o9" firmware in the 3mp coms camera unless someone knows where to download it or it can be ripped from the 5mp coms camera - there is no way i can risk putting "08" firmware into the 5mp coms camera if i have no way in putting it back in .

I haven't seen any of these using other than the AR0330, regardless of what's written on the box, there are however multiple versions of these and the good ones give decent results, better lens, better build, better firmware, it all adds up
