They're damn lucky they didn't wait another half second to pull out... If they got hit there they'd probably end up halfway down the mountain in the trees...

If you noticed, the brake lights went off on the car on the shoulder, then they pulled out. That's something you kind of learn to watch for, and the brief flash of the backup lights on automatic cars as they shift from park into Drive. It warns you they are probably going to start moving.

I did not consider that @dash riposki , wise words indeed to live by as a driver in the US.
But if you visit over here and rent a car forget all about that as automatic is as rare here if not more than stick shift is in the US.

Anyway he sure did deserve that honk.
