This one goes out to all potential longer term users of these cams.
I Read a lot of cloud issues for u1000, heat issues with viofo.
I know the specs, price, and so on, vortex's video capability comparison probably favours viofo in terms of plate numbers, but my most important concern is durability and reliability.
Or is there even a better one in the meantime?
Thanks!

can't comment on viofo; but the U1000 is a very reliable camera.
very good image, though there will always be situation where number plates might not be readable (like with any camera)
(I usually immediately read out the plates out loud to record them)
for me no cloud issues, what have you heard ?
even the u1000 can overheat though, but what else to expect in 35°c+ weather...

After problems with various cameras that have failed within a few years, on a recommendation from an installer friend (mates rates and all that) I took his advice and he fitted the U1000 and front and rear and radar. Works perfectly with various SD cards up to 512gb. I do not use the cloud, and the only annoyance for me is that is very chatty on start-up.

U1000 is a very reliable camera. It will be 2 years this October. No issues.
My 1st dash cam and no regrets. Very chatty on start-up and I think this can be turned off. I wouldn't want 2. I'm use to it.

I am pretty sure you cannot disable the start-up chat. I looked in the menu system repeatedly.

As i have a129 pro for almost a year, I wouldn’t take a129 pro even for free because it is not reliable
