Unit completely useless 15 seconds after switching it on, how many faults can one item have at once

I find the above interesting, this is something I would be willing to try, although I shouldn’t have too. But nextbase need to be careful, if this is something that massively improves the performance and even goes as far as to stop all the above issues then it points to a major design flaw and the product not being fit for purpose. At the moment I feel it’s a firmware problem or issue with having to write too much data to the card, but the point you make above in regards to heat I know from experience can be a major factor, going back to my early blackvue days, excellent cameras but suffered with overheating with the very first models. My nextbase camera is so bad it does need to be changed as it’s just not doing what it was intended for, the main issue for me is the constant screen freezing, and using park mode, forget it. So it’s going to be thrown in the bin so doing what you recommend above with regards to heat issues is something I would be willing to try, if just to prove an overheating issue, to be fair it does get very warm, but then a lot of the cameras I’ve used in the past always did get hot so I just expected it. But I might try this to see if it helps because if the camera did work correctly I would be over the moon as when it works it’s fantastic, unfortunately it only works for a few minutes then freezes or crashes completely.

I have now decided to just give in and tear it all out and go back to my mivue setup, had enough of all the issues, there are just too many problems with one device it’s ridiculous. Oh well, now to take the car apart again to run all those other cables back along the car that were already there before, what a complete and total waste of my time, a good job I’m competent enough to do it my self and don’t have to pay like many other people do. It’s not good enough, especially for all the customers who have had to pay for the install.

I switched to a unit that is perfectly happy with the Nextbase 2 wire hardwire kit and uses the mini USB. The main bonus for me is that it's been 100% reliable.

Unfortunately they are different types, and I don’t have more money to spend on another upgrade or I would buy another newer unit, maybe viofo, heard good things about them. So for now I think I have to put the old one back In, which to be honest isn’t that old and is still a good unit and blows the nextbase away regardless of features because it actually works and it’s the 2k version with 1080p rear cam so still good for now, but still extremely frustrating when you have spent hard earned money on an upgrade that came to be a downgrade, but at least I can take something away from this fiasco and that is don’t ever buy a nextbase dash cam you will regret it. I hope they get their act together in the future because when it worked I loved it unfortunately it only worked for around 10 minutes at a time before some issue occurred.

Hello,

the heat problems are the main cause. I have tried several updates, all without any problems. An update is supposed to fix bugs and add new features.
But if a dashcam has a heat problem, no updates will help.

As already described, I disassembled the dashcam and enlarged the ventilation holes and added a few more where I could.

Another problem the Nextbase have is the battery problem. The batteries in the Nextbase are designed for a maximum of 45 degrees Celsius. I bought a Nextbase 322GW second-hand as defective, where the battery had inflated due to the heat and the display had been pushed out! Luckily nothing happened, except that a small corner of the glass of the display was broken.

I suspect that too many functions in too small a housing are causing problems and that the cooling is simply inadequate! Why don't the 122 and the 222G (which I use from time to time) cause problems? I think that the electronic components can't heat up so much because there are not so many of them.

If you are looking for a problem-free camera, my recommendation is the Viofo A129 Plus Duo or the Viofo A119 v3, whereby the A129 Plus Duo has the slightly better picture. Buy a polarising filter and you will be more than satisfied, at least I am!

Oh yes, in Germany, installation prices range from 130 to 950 euros for a maximum of two hours' work!
I recently had a conversation with someone who wanted to have a dashcam installed.
I advised him to do it himself and to try it with a charging cable from a smartphone.
He was probably afraid of damaging the trim of the car.

I have several times offered my services in installing dashcams to Danes in the area, all i would ask is a soda if its a warm day.

These days many people simply dont have the DIY skill, hell my now 35 YO Nephew when he was 16 he got a moped to ride, i am pretty sure he would not be able to point out the spark plug,,,,,, something i would have been able to do when i was 12 years old.

PS Putting a radio in my car ( my Suzuki car is so cheap it dident come with one,,, in 2012 ) well how to take apart the plastic trim on the center console i had to ask the dealer, a guy there showed me, and 1 minute later i was like "OK it is really that simple "

You are right. Not everyone is able to do it.

But I can tell you why.

I come from East Germany and grew up under socialism. Fortunately!

Not because the system was so great, but because we were forced (and today again) to repair things!
Today, many things are easier to repair because I get information from the internet and the right tools.

The youth of today (not all of them!) are only interested in functioning technology without looking at the basics.
It's usually too boring for them! It is more important for them to look at colourful pictures and videos.

They usually waste their time with meaningless things and are surprised when they no longer have time for themselves, let alone for other people.
They have no interest in doing crafts. Reading, be it a book or something on the internet, no way!

It has to be moving pictures!
As I said, not everyone is like that.

Even adults my age (50+) are like that for the most part. It's society. Fast, colourful and unfortunately very forgetful!

I can't do everything either, but I'm not afraid to touch things that are foreign to me.
Trying is the best way to learn.

I visited east Germany many times when the wall was still there, my farther was / is a high ranking communist.
I was in Russia ( Odesa now Ukraine ) in August 1990 when that fell apart, i was there with a big tanker ship,,, unloading was very unprofessional and took days longer than it needed to take.
