Dash Cam
Viofo A119
So I have just upgraded to an Viofo A119 and I am thinking of putting my old dashcam in the rear window (might aswell, if i have it lying around),
I was planning on using the dual usb adapter that comes with the A119 and run a usb extension cable to the back of the car for the rear dashcam. (I have the USB adapter hardwired)

My question is,
Is there a limit on usb cable length when it is only being used for power? (there will be no data going down the cable)
Because i would probably need like 4-5m cable (I saw something saying 3-5m maximum) and ive seen active extension cables but is this needed?

I've used a 5m cable in the past with no problems but you do want a decent quality cable otherwise there will be too much voltage drop and the camera will decide to shut down. I'm currently using a blue "USB 3" extension cable because they are better specified for power (=less voltage drop), you can even get them with mini USB connectors on the end.

If you need an "active" cable, whatever that is, it would be better to run 12v to the back of the car and use a standard converter or hardwire kit there. (don't connect 12v to the camera!)

I was thinking of buying this usb 3.0 one, it has good reviews:

I think the active ones just have signal amplification but i feel thats more for data transfer:

I dont know whether to just buy the active one?

I would run a 12v wire but id rather just use the current setup than run another one for it as long as its safe and all.

I suggest this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272647531890
It specifically says 24AWG for the power cables, I think some of them aren't intended for charging and use thin power cables.
I don't think the active ones do anything useful for power, in fact they will use some extra!

Thanks you very much, this is perfect.
