Ordered a KIA EV6.

Don't want to have to run wires. Therefore, probably just going to do a front cam. I can easily tap into my rear view mirror power supply (see below) and get USB power.

What quality dash cams are powered by USB? I know I'll not get the parking motion function that comes with a lot of cams, but I am not going to run a power supply to my 12V battery on my KIA.

The Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 looks like a top small budget pic and I see it is USB powered. But would love to hear some other options that have more functions.

I’m going to purchase the Viofo A119 V3 or Mini with a adaptor listed below to connect to the Dongar Mirror adapter for my Honda HRV.

for me I hope it works but I’ll have to wait until I get the car first to try it out. The one adapter above listed is USB-C female to a USB male. Should work.

Just stumbled across this thread while searching for details about the Dongar Mirror adapter. The Dongar adapter uses a basic USB-A connector to supply power to dash cams.

I also have a VIOFO A119 V3 Quad HD. The power connector on the VIOFO is a USB Mini-B but you probably already sorted that out.

That said, the Dongar Mirror adapter that I just received for my 2020 Toyota Tacoma also came with two short cables but one is USB-C to USB-A and the other is USB Micro-B to USB-A. So neither will fit the VIOFO USB Mini-B connector. Luckily I had a very short USB Mini-B to USB-A cable that works fine.

So if someone that follows needs a cable that will work with the Dongar Adapter and a VIOFO dash cam, they will need a USB Mini-B to USB-A cable or if they want to use one of the supplied cables, a USB-C to USB Mini-B or USB Micro-B to USB Mini-B adapter.

I do love that the Dongar Mirror adapter eliminates the need to run long cables to the power source. However, since the Dongar Mirror adapter taps into the rearview mirror's power source, it will be "switched power". So the dash cam (any dash cam) will only be powered on when the ignition is on. That means no "parking mode", etc. Works great for me, but others may want constant power to use the other features.

Hope that helps!
