Hello All,

I recently purchased a new vehicle and was really disappointed with the quality of the FM radio. After a few trips to the dealership and searching online I found that it was my USB to 12v cigarette lighter that was causing the interference. My old vehicle had a 12v cigarette lighter and I could just plug my Garmin Dashcam 45 in, no problem. My new vehicle no longer has a 12v cigarette lighter in the location I want and have replaced it with two USB cables. So I tried a non-name adapter from eBay and found myself without a radio.

It seems the most of the discussions and items for sale are for converting 12v to USB; I am now looking for a recommendation for the opposite. I purchased another USB to 12v cigarette lighter adapter on Amazon, they all look the same and are non-branded products. This one is MUCH better, but still makes my FM reception worse.

Any recommendations on a name brand, good solution to eliminate the RF that messes with my FM radio?

BAD eBay Purchase: USB 5V To 12V Car Cigarette Lighter
Improved Amazon Purchase: Yeworth 0.6m 5V USB to 12V Car Cigarette Lighter

If you still have a cigarette lighter socket you could buy an extension cord similar to this or buy both ends and make your own cable.

If there is no cigarette lighter socket available at all disregard this post.

Probably just easier to hardwire the camera into the fuse box. Most USB ports in cars are already underpowered to properly power a dash camera, so I can't see converting it into a 12V cigarette port being better.

The rf noise is probably caused by the 5-12V conversion. So hardwiring your cam directly to 12v should fix the issue. If you need the portability offered by a cigarette lighter plug purchase something like this:
