I'm using the LTE module with a T-Mobile bring-your-own-device SIM card (25 GB at $25 plan) to run the E360 cam, and I figured there is no reason I shouldn't be able to use the hotspot feature to run an additional WiFi cam in my truck. Since my home, business, and other vehicles use Ring alarm/cam services, I was hopeful that I could install a stick-up cam to utilize the LTE module's hotspot connection and consolidate all my camera viewing needs into a single dashboard/app.
So, off I went to tinker. I selected a stick-up cam I already had in my home and went into the settings to change the wifi network to the LTE module (be sure the blue light is active on the module and you know the password). The cam immediately connected to the hotspot, and I can access the cam anytime, anywhere. I have been testing this for almost one week and haven't seen a big hit to battery voltage thus far. I do have the Vantrue hardwire module with voltage cut-off protection in place. The cam functions as it does in my home and notifies me when I get in the vehicle through the Ring app. To keep the hotspot active, go into the LTE module settings and set the WiFi to "ON." This prevents the hotspot from timing out after 10 minutes. Also, ensure the network button is pushed to activate the blue light to enable wifi casting. When you don't want the hotspot active, turn off the blue light - easy peasy! I am still testing this out, but the functionality is there and may have numerous other applications. One last thing, my stick-up cam is 1080p, so the data usage should be pretty low.
Of note, the T-Mobile sim is swappable and not tied to an IMEI. And, it throttles speed after 25gb to 400-600kbps instead of shutting off! Give it a go and share your experiences. Now, hopefully my truck will start...
