To me it seems like this will be the year of imx675 being used as interior camera sensor. I strongly suspect the A329S uses it as the sensor for its interior camera too.

Coming back to the N4S, it's nice to see them offer the waterproof camera not as an option but standard in the package.

I see the box contents list that it's got an interior dangly mount for the rear cameras too, so that gives users the flexibility of choice.

I could see this camera being a winner in terms of flexibility by covering all angles quite literally. Only thing missing is an imx678 up front and a fisheye lens for the interior.

I think the waterproof camera could be useful for pickup trucks, or cargo vans - mount it outside so you're not seeing the trunk bed.

Maybe good for cars with rear window tint - but not sure how to keep it clean in rain/snow.

In my opinion it would have been better to use a rear camera design that every other manufacturer uses either. Including Vantrue with previous/other models.

Usually you would mount the camera somewhere in the middle and on the very top and the mount of the N4S just takes more space then. minimum the space of the adhensive pad + camera.
how much the mount would add on top depends on how you mount it or aim for space between heat wiring.
it could be done better than in my photo for sure, that needs to be considered!

It`s the camera on the right side.
But since 95% won`t mount the rear camera outside the car anyway it`s just unnecessarry to have that disadvantage for the majority of the customers.
This might not be relevant if you drive a Van like me.

But if you drive some kind of other car with smaller rear window you normally want the dashcam to be on top because it`s less prominent when looking in the rear mirror.

To be clear:
It`s not a huge downside in my opinion.
But I would have prefered to make the design to match the majority of the customers.
And I think customers mounting the waterproof-camera outside is just a very very small target group.

You can see in the rear screen beginning from the left the rear cameras of

Viofo A329S - Viofo A229 Plus/Pro - Vantrue S1Pro/N4 Pro - Redtiger F7NT - Redtiger F4 Pro - Vantrue N4S

But regarding quality.
Need to analyse the footage I took but I think the N4S is doing well in my opinion!

No doubt the form factor could be problematic but it's nice to see a manufacturer at least give us the option haha. The Vantrue RC06 or RC04 or whatever it was for the s1 pro/N4 Pro was a dud, but the A229 Pro/A329 rears were solid.

If they throw PlatePix onto the rear of the N4S then we could have a solid unit! Would be interesting to see if it would de-throne the IMX675's that Viofo uses.

I'm currently using the E1 Pro as one of my rear cameras haha, the extra resolution is appreciated but it's not super night and day difference between it and the 2K rears.

Yes, the rear camera quality of the S1 Pro / N4 Pro was terrible, also compared to other 1080p-rear-cameras.

But I think the new rear camera is in a similar range to Viofo A229Plus/Pro/A329

This is a heavily zoomed in crop of a situation.

Haha love it, the amazing quality of the old Vantrue camera!

Thanks for sharing the photos, good to see that the N4S is comparable at least to the Viofo rears

Next year is far far away 😄
But I guess we ´re headed this way for every manufacturer. It seems so logical…
I say it would be. NT98530 Chipset bought support for fisheye lens and stitching for sensors, so that's why we are starting to see it with fisheye IR cameras for example on the A329S and Vantrue E360

I presume unit prices of the IMX675/IMX678 are also coming down since it has been on the market for a while now and Sony has released some new sensors in the time since - so those will trickle down to become mainstays of rear camera sensors across perhaps high end and midrange solutions (rear integrated cable cameras, rearview mirror dash cameras etc)

The IMX678 is currently the limiting factor. (With chipset)
Sooner or later all manufacturers will use it in their high end products until a successor is released.
The IMX678 will become more and more common.

I just received a message from Wendy at Vantrue asking if I'd review the new N4S, so I'll probably have some images to show in a little while. It's interesting seeing the differences as the technology evolves.

Could you get some power usage data, I'm still interested in building that LTO!

Vantrue is great at offering a lot of samples to forum members to share their feedbacks, improve the dash cams, and answer any questions one might have. 🙂

Not sure if I should start a new thread... But here's some pictures of the unit. I was reached out and received my device from @Jeff_Vantrue team.

edit: here's a few more sample videos from the same drive/day - need to drive the car a little more often.
