VANTRUE R1 1080p Dashcam (NT96650 and Aptina AR330) - unboxing and review

Daytime video sample:
Part1
Part2

Evening time around 6pm:

Night video coming soon...

Night videos are very decent for the NT96650 dashcam.
I compared night videos of G1WH from the same streets from my older posts and this R1 has slightly better quality and has larger area in brightness.

Audio removed/replaced due to lots of chit chat in the car...
Midnight in the highway @ around 70mph.
Spotted 3 cop cars waiting for the unfortunate ones... I was 5mph over but usually that's a safe bet...

Little later than the above video.
This goes from highway speed of around 70mph to service streets at around 40mph with traffic lights...

Pretty good quality considering I have older headlights.
Those with xenon lights will make night videos much brighter.

it's looking like a better proposition than the G1W series cams where there's too many 'me too' versions of unknown quality, needs a coat of stealth though

I think at the moment local ( Chinese ) demand on this model is much higher than on "western market". For sure if one of resellers would order 1K pcs then manufacturer may offer a full black matte coating.

Yes, day quality is excellent and night is pretty good as well.
Last few models of non g1wx NT96650 based dashcams I reviewed really are step up from those generic series.

Here are some of the same screen shots I do with all as a reference to quality...

it does look good, sadly I got an email tonight from a supplier promoting a 96220 version of this same camera which isn't a good sign

That's rather upsetting to hear.

That just means the retailers need to double check and that doesn't seem to be possible looking at how many NT96620 pass on to consumers as NT96650. :(

One more clip of my usual drive with radio on.
From 0mph to around 55mph depending upon traffic.
Video has natural colors and clean without over sharpening.

To conclude, it's very good in daylight and decent at night.
It has good audio as well with enough volume and clarity.
If I have a dual channel wifi that has its quality on both front and rear, that'll be pretty much permanent dashcam but haven't seen one yet.

What we really need is an orange sticker to put on the roof saying
"Dashcam(s) Inside, Beware"

..or "Help Yourself"?

Actually, that's not a bad idea and can prevent many smaller incidents until it meets someone who's bold enough to break in and grab the dashcam.
That's why we need to have external SD to save files to wireless so even if the dashcam is stolen, footage is safe.

You mean, 'Make my day, do you feel lucky punk, well do ya?' :D
