I purchased two Viofo Industrial 512 GB cards off Amazon Canada in August 2025. Sold by Viofo and Shipped from Amazon. One was in mid-August and one at end of August.

Was running fine until recently. One or two to three days after formatting it in the camera (Viofo A229 Plus 3-Channel) a new message pops up on the LCD, 'please format card'. The camera stops working wth the message displayed. I would have to pull over onto a quiet street and either format it or unplug the power and reboot.

This only happens with the one card. I suspect there is something wrong with the one card. The second one runs fine.

Yes, I wil contact @viofo support to exchange the card. I am hoping they send me a brand new one as it's only been 5 months since purchase. I'm posting here as a heads up in case you think, nothing will happen to these Viofo memory cards. If I just purchased the one card, then I'd be thinking maybe it's the firmware. The firmware will affect both cards and not just the one.

Try formatting it with SDFormatter. Perform the full overwrite. FYI, a 512GB card will take awhile.

Try to deeply format the card on your PC as below first:
1. Select MS-DOS (FAT) in Disk Utility on MacBook;
2. Download the Gui Format tool from link below if you use Windows.
https://viofotech.com/download/guiformat.exe (do not tick quick format)
Then format it again on the camera to test.
What is the firmware version on your camera? Update it to the latest to have a try.

I did not get the chance to apply the above fix recommended by Viofo. The issue with the memory cards seems to have corrected itself.

The issue may have started wih the very cold temps experienced this winter in eastern Ontario This caused issues with the Powercell 8 which in turn caused issues with the Viofo A229 Plus 3-Channel. This in turn may have caused write errors on the memory card.

With the milder temps over the past several weeks, the Powercell 8 is no longer beeping and forcing the Viofo A229 Plus to go into different modes. Ex. '3-channels started recording. beep. 3-channels started recording. beep. 3-channels started recording.

I've been using the Powercell 8 external batteries for many years now (and the Bi-750 and ext before that). I don't recall this issue happening before in the winter months but maybe the other Viofo cams weren't alerting the issue to me as diligently as the A229 Plus 3-Channel. (I previously had the Viofo A139 3-Channel).
