I don't know how many Novatek dashcams are offering 21:9 aspect ratio and I consider Viofo can make a good decision to implement it on 2K dashcams because the final result is 2560x1080, so it is not under 1080p resolution to make some people worrying that 21:9 aspect ratio is not even Full HD.
I am big fan of 21:9 aspect ratio. Also I am fan of 30FPS instead of 60FPS and the 21:9 mode is only 30FPS in this firmware for testing.

Until now Viofo was offering the Ultra Wide 21:9 aspect ratio only for Viofo A129 Pro as: 3840x1600p 30FPS = 4K 21:9 (43mbps: 1min = 300MB)
In a testing firmware for Viofo A119 V3, Viofo introduced a new resolution as: 2560x1080p 30FPS = 2K 21:9 (32mbps: 1min = 220MB)

Viofo A119 V3 vs Viofo A129 Plus 21:9 aspect ratio comparison:

The advantages of 21:9 aspect ratio (which I am using always!) are:
1. same bitrate as for 16:9 is used also for 21:9 which means more Bits/(Pixel*Frame) and the result should be better image for 21.9 compared to 16:9
2. sky and dashboard and engine hood are not important and in 21:9 mode are less, no bitrate wasted to encode unnecessary parts of the image
3. nice Cinema Mode looking of the videos, nice option for vloggers or when you want to record a trip
4. for 2 channels models will be more nice to combine as stack vertical 2 videos recorded as 21:9, see this example.
5. no 60FPS mode. Please do not start forum fight against me, it is my opinion and nobody will change it with any dashcam released until 2021!

The only disadvantage can be for some people which can be afraid that the traffic lights will not appear if they are stopped into the first position. But you can put Pause on this video at 00:36 and see that common traffic lights are recorded into the video without any problems. Of course, for some „people” the black bars of a 21:9 video which appear at the top and the bottom of their 16:9 TV can be annoying.

Nice, I like the wider view, better to use the bits on the important stuff than on my dash and the meteors.

I'm sure some people would like a 60fps version though, even if it is not useful for evidence purposes!

I hope the same is done with the A129 Plus in the next FW release. I also like that feature and use it in the Pro.

I consider it is a good thing for A129+ users if @viofo liked your post. Let's hope they will add 21:9 AR to A129+ and all other their future cameras and become a standard in Viofo dashcams.
Small and useful things like this is making a brand to be different compared to others and people are appreciating this.

TBH, I only want a dashcam to be able to record some reasonable footage I could present to my insurance company should anything happen.

Secondary uses are to report the exact location of new or changed speed cameras to another forum I attend and to have footage I could forward to the Police if I captured anything unusual.

It doesn't need to be cinema quality and I'm finding my V3 perfectly adequate and the footage is superior to my old Nextbase dashcams due to the solid mount.

The aspect ratio, to me, is unimportant, I'll run with whatever it gives.

Is there a blinking in this firmware?

Will be also for A129+ look here.

enjoy,
Mtz
Also, do you think the A29 Plus could benefit if they add Max bitrate to the menu? I see this camera runs much cooler than the pro version.

I think 32mbps for 2K resolution is OK. If using 21:9 the bitrate will be even more useful compared to 16:9.

enjoy,
Mtz

A blue line is displayed in the center of the LCD with the top being 45% and the bottom 55%. It is convenient for the user to adjust the angle of the lens when setting up the car so as not to shoot too much sky or too many car scenes.
My firmware is St_EN_MOD_9D_FWA119V3
Default bitrate 265 codec is disabled if it is enabled with 4K resolution with a bitrate of 40
It's in place 3840x2160 -> 3840x1600 works fine
Gentlemen, test, speak out about the line

VVS,

I tried your 9C MOD firmware with my A119 V3. I did not see 3840x2160 resolution option in the menu.
Could you recommend settings for your firmware?

Дякую

To turn on 4K, you need to stop recording and hold the microphone button until the sound, so the 265 codec will turn on and 4K(3840x1600) resolution will appear in the menu.
I changed firmware 9D to 9C with brightness correction.
VVS,

I did what you said and then I drove around to get some footage. What can I say? It works great! The only downside was that it was a cloudy gloomy day. I can't wait for the bright sunny day to see the quality.
Thank you for firmware.

There is another advantage of the 21:9 format: less sky in the picture, better exposure.

Usually the sky is much more brighter than the rest of the image, if you have less sky, the exposure level will be more accurate and the important things will look less darker.
