So Viofo has officially announced their new A119M Pro. It's essentially a 4K version of the A119 Mini 2. Same compact form factor and all, just with a Starvis 2 IMX678 to bump the resolution from 2K to 4K.

There's also a couple other small changes like they've added WiFi 6 so file transfer speeds jump from 8 MB/s to 30 MB/s, plus their GPS mount now also supports BeiDou (China), Galileo (EU), and GLONASS (Russia) satellite systems.

Viofo was kind enough to send me a unit a little while back and I've only briefly tested it while busy with other projects, but this past weekend when my wife went up to Vancouver for a concert, I tossed the A119M Pro into her car so she could collect a little sample footage for us. 🙂 Here's a video taking a quick look at the dashcam and sharing some of the daytime and nighttime footage from Viofo's latest model.

Also sorry that the dashcam isn't set to a perfect 50/50 split between road and sky. That was my bad with trying to eyeball it in the garage with a quick install before my wife left.

That is the other way around Russia are GLONASS

But for sure this little gem will be one of a few to beat in the 1 channel market, looking forward to seeing it VS other systems, and of course how the overall price / performance end up.

Let's see what surprises and problems the A119M Pro has in store for us.

Perhaps @viofo has done its homework.

Unfortunately, no camera has been produced without problems to date.

The E1 Pro finally has a buddy to play with. 🤣
That would be an interesting comparison.

Nice upgrade, will be a good battle between this and the Vantrue E1 Pro. Wifi 6 is also something that the E1 Pro doesn't have.

Viofo doesn't have the fastest WiFi 6 in the land, but I'll take it!

The Viofo also gives you the ability to go both down and back up the menu since it has an additional button on the back. The E1 Pro has one fewer button so it only lets you go down, but not back up if you accidentally scroll past the option you wanted, so you gotta scroll through the whole list again, lol.

The E1 Pro offers LTE support and it regularly goes on sale closer to $100 so each one has its benefits. Personally I think I'd lean towards the Vantrue for the pricepoint and cloud capabilities, but I agree that it's gonna be a good battle for sure.

Agreed to, I would recommend the E1 Pro cos of cloud but then the image quality out of the Viofo due to higher bitrate should be pretty damn good too

The mighty E1 Pro gets a bonus point for the optional suction cup mount. It offers a bit more flexibility.
On the other hand, the wedge-shaped Viofo will hide a bit better on the windshield...

Oh is that finally out now? Checking their site, it looks like it is. Thank goodness... lots of people were asking about that.

As for the bitrate stuff, let's see...

A119M Pro: 37 Mb/s
E1 Pro: 32 Mb/s

So Viofo is a smidge higher, but not dramatically so. This is with both dashcams set to their max bitrate options of course.

Would have thought viofo would have pushed it higher but maybe they're thinking about heat and reliability this time around...

Both 264?

I think the Viofo wins because of the hybrid parking modes, Low Bitrate for 3 hours followed by impact detection for a week means that I don't need to buy a dashcam battery costing more than the dashcam!

Assuming it is supporting the hybrid parking modes? They do suggest you buy an HK6 with it...

Some people might not even care for those parking modes, so E1 Pro would work better (and cheaper) for them. Personal preference at the end of the day. Both are very good in their own right.

I see no official mention of hybrid parking mode. If you use the HK6 it can display the voltage in the OSD, if you want to see that information.

The A119M Pro hardware might not support low power impact detection.

Dont suppose you have the numbers for the Vantrue S1 Pro Max. I would be more interested in a head to head with the max and the A119m then with the e1 pro.

When the E1 Pro runs out of bitrate, the result is a bit dramatic, normally it does very nicely, but it does sometimes run out and go very blocky. A smidge more, 15.6% more, can make a big difference to the sometimes. I imagine that the Viofo will run out very infrequently.

The codecs have been improving with the newer processors, most of the time there is no need for 60 Mb/s for 4K with these newer processors. It needs some testing before declaring it "not dramatic" on image quality! It would be nice to see another smidge more though...

Do the blocks appear outside of the Area of Interest? Like do the license plates stay clear but the sky goes blocky?

On the E1 Pro, the whole image sometimes goes blocky, plates included, making them unreadable, which I think is when it needs a lot of bitrate. I don't tend to notice the sky go blocky, because it normally happens when under trees with lots of leaves and branches.

I haven't tried an A119M Pro yet.

That’s a multichannel dashcam that’s more of a competitor to something like the A229 Ultra or T800, no?
