VIOFO A119M Pro_Video and Screenshots

Awesome, thanks for the sample footage @Karagandinez !

Is there a reason why the resolution is 3840x1600 instead of full 4k?

So far I was slightly more impressed with the night driving than the day driving (which I did not expect). The day driving seems to have a lot of artifacting that makes it hard to read license plates at times.

I like this resolution better.

This firmware has a low bitrate for 4K. License plates are difficult to make out when trees line the road.
Viofo promises to consider increasing the bitrate in future firmware updates.

In the screenshot in the post, the timestamp in the A119M Pro status bar on the right side of the rcg530 is cut off.
When setting the resolution to 21:9, the timestamp is not cropped on both firmware versions.

Watching your video i noticed your headlight beam seems high without annoying in coming traffic.

Do you drive a vehicle that has the modern headlights that improve lighting the road and also has the feature that prevents blinding the cars approaching it?
I looked it up and it could be headlight technologies like ADB and Matrix LED systems.

That would also answer a question i keep asking myself why I don't seem to be able to capture number plates like you do during night driving.

Video quality of the A119M Pro I really like and it shows in your video.

I’m impressed with the video quality of this camera and have decided to buy one of these from Viofo’s Aliexpress store for delivery to the UK. I couldn’t find any UK based stock. I’ve ordered the HK6 hard wire kit too.

I had a different reaction - headlight beam height seemed somewhat "normal" to me. Two things might be relevant to your observations comparing cars:

1) different cars have very different headlight patterns - some are excellent, many are less than excellent. The beam and illumination pattern for my headlights are less than ideal. In the United States, it is The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety that assesses and grades/ranks cars according to their headlight output. I know my car shows up as rather sub-standard in this respect. I've been a passenger in other vehicles and thought their lights were significantly better.

2) Many cars just come with their headlights aimed far too low. This is not a "preference" issue, but a design/intention/adjustment issue. My LED headlights are specified as "1% alignment" which means that the beam should be aimed 10cm down from the horizontal at a distance of 10m out from the front of the car (10cm/10m = 1%). This is measurable and you can verify that your headlights do or do not match this intention and adjust accordingly. This leads me to the question: are your headlights properly aligned?

Yeah I get what you are saying. I used to align headlights! That's what you get when you hang around workshops lol.

This beam technology has only been implemented in the USA in the last couple of years. In Europe it was introduced earlier like in 2012 and similar in Australia from what I have read.

Here is an image/videos that shows various technologies.
Apologies to @Karagandinez for the slight of topic direction but it is relevant to why some dashcam users might get a better result driving at night.

And this jumps to more relevant bits

Same video but talks about Audi Matrix headlights

My Toyota Aurion basically a Camry uses a primitive version of headlight control - Steering‑linked headlamp aiming / AFS

So in closing I wonder if @Karagandinez headlights have one of these technologies in them.

My videos are shot from different cars and with different headlights.
If a dashcam can read an oncoming car's license plate at night, it can do so from any of my cars. But if one model can't, changing cars won't help.

The Viofo A119M Pro model is installed in a vehicle equipped with LED headlights with adaptive lighting function (AFS).

It's a cool tech for sure, but I'm not aware of it being legal in the US yet (perhaps I've missed the announcement, though). We're pretty slow over here on doing things that make sense...

Hello everyone,
I'm new here and would like to say something about the Viofo A119M Pro. I started looking into dashcams around August 2025. Out of boredom, I often watched dashcam channels on YouTube. One of these channels is called DDG (DashcamDriversGermany). Over time, I found out that the presenter also has his own dashcam shop here in Germany. By this point, I had already tried out quite a few dashcams and was never really completely satisfied. One could do this, another could do that quite well. But none of the dashcams could always do everything. I realize that this depends on many factors, such as the weather, lighting conditions, vehicle speed, etc. Just when I thought it would never work out, I saw the channel I mentioned and watched some videos where the presenter tests some dashcams himself. At the same time, the Viofo A119M Pro was recommended on another channel by a different YouTuber. So I started doing some research.
During my research, I came across this thread. Aha, I thought, another person who is “singing the praises” of model xyz, as we say here in Germany. Nevertheless, the photos from videos taken by “Karagandinez” Dashcam seemed very promising to me. Could this be the “salvation” from my dashcam woes? *lol* So I contacted the YouTuber (DashcamDriversGerman) and he told me that the model is not Viofo's flagship, but can still compete very well with the A229 Pro. Now I had a comparison and decided to take a chance, and what can I say, for me this dashcam is almost perfect.
I have had the following manufacturers and models so far:

Azdome GS63H Pro
Azdome GS63 Pro
DDPAI Z60 Pro
KAWA D11

None of these models are bad, but none of the dashcams were able to display number plates, especially those of oncoming traffic, very well when it was cloudy or rainy. The DDPAI in particular produced nothing but mush, whereas the others were still able to show a little something.

The Viofo A119M Pro, which I now call my own, is something else entirely. Almost every number plate is clearly visible at night. During the day, especially when it's cloudy and/or rainy, they are also very easy to see. It's not perfect, but it's perfectly adequate for me.

The only thing that still bothers me is the fact that two things don't work as described in the user manual. Firstly, the voice command ‘VideoStop’ doesn't work at all and secondly, the setting for ‘Enter Parking Mode Timer’.

There are two settings here:

1. ‘OFF’
2. ‘90 seconds’

OFF means that the dashcam switches to parking mode immediately after the ignition is turned off and continues recording.

90 SECONDS means that the dashcam switches off immediately after the ignition is switched off and only switches to parking mode after 90 seconds.

Unfortunately, in my case, the dashcam continues recording immediately after the ignition is switched off, for 90 seconds, and then goes into standby mode until it detects movement. It is connected to the HK6 from Viofo, motion detection is set to low and Enter Parking Mode Timer is set to 90 seconds. It has the latest firmware with the version number: V1.0_20251031

Anyway, and this is what I actually wanted to do with my post here, I wanted to share my limited experience with this dashcam with all readers here. It's not exactly cheap, but it's not super expensive either. For me, it offers a good compromise between price and performance.

Wishing you all a nice weekend.

Welcome to the Forum.

I don’t praise any models, I just show and sometimes tell what they can do.

90 SECONDS means that the dashcam switches off immediately after the ignition is switched off and only switches to parking mode after 90 seconds.
“90 SECONDS” means the dash cam continues recording for 90 seconds after the ignition is turned off and then switches to parking mode.

Manual. Page: 25
Enter Parking Mode Timer: Set the timer for entering
parking mode.
"Off" means the camera will enter parking mode right
away when the engine is off.
"90S" means the camera will enter parking mode 90
seconds after engine is off

Hello Karagandimez,
Thanks vor the Welcome. I didn't mean the comment "Aha, I thought, another person who is 'singing the praises' of model xyz" in a bad way. I simply wanted to express my initial thought. As the thread progressed, that initial thought faded, and I became increasingly pleased, as I began to think, "Yes, this dashcam could really be the one this time." Ultimately, your posts, especially the photos of day and night recordings, convinced me to buy this dashcam. So far, I'm very satisfied. Thank you for the work you put into showcasing the performance of this dashcam and the model itself here.I noticed today that a new firmware is available and installed the new version V1.1_20260109 right away. Nice option with the extra Viofo logo and the ability to change the font color and that the Dashcam Supports now the exFAT Format.

My A119M Pro is on the way to me from China. I’m now deciding on a SD card to use with it. In the UK I can buy either a Sandisk Max Endurance 128gb card for £35 or a Vantrue 256gb card for £50. A Viofo 256gb is £70 which makes me favour one of the other two. Which would people recommend to buy?

Which would people recommend to buy?
Definitely 256G. 128G cards are a bit small as resolutions and file sizes climb, so they don't hold very many hours of footage at all anymore. Between Vantrue and Viofo branded cards, I would suspect VERY little difference (likely made to very similar if not exact same specs) so go with the better priced one.

Thanks. Yes I am more tempted by the Vantrue card and at only £15 more than the Sandisk is good value. Hopefully reliability is good compared to Sandisk.
