VIOFO A229 DUO FIRMWARE

I hope they shipped mine with the newest firmware. I am a noob. It is my first dashcam ever. :)

I just checked the FWA229A.bin file you get when you go to the new A229 firmware download page. It's version V1.0_0615. I checked the md5 checksum on this "new" firmware file and the one I received from VIOFO back on 15-Jun-2022 for testing and they're identical.

Using md5 checksums:

File I just downloaded from the VIOFO website:

$ md5sum FWA229A.bin
f66f1740ac5924923f8b5b0eec734ebf FWA229A.bin

File I was given to test back on 15-Jun-2022:

$ md5sum V1.0_0615/FWA229A.bin
f66f1740ac5924923f8b5b0eec734ebf V1.0_0615/FWA229A.bin

The A229 V1.0_0615 firmware does resolve the stuttering video issue, but it introduces an audio bug which causes a loss of 1.67 seconds of audio at the end of each video file (front and rear).

So the newest one is here:

At the moment it says: V1.0_0623
At one point last night, the website said V1.0_0620, but you would still get V1.0_0615. I sent an email asking about the version mismatch.

I was told that the downloadable version would be updated to V1.0_0623. The website description now states V1.0_0623 and the firmware also shows version V1.0_0623.

Filename: FWA229A.bin
Version: V1.0_0623
File Size (Bytes): 73,089,404
MD5 Checksum: cbdb6b0da4cea982164b878080ca7f34

I was told that V1.0_0623 has no feature differences when compared to the V1.0_0620 firmware version.

I just installed V1.0_0623 and found that it changed ALL of my settings back to the defaults, including the WIFI speed & password.

I contacted Viofo and was told that "Yes, firmware updates can erase all settings".

Has anyone ever had that issue with firmware updates?

The resetting of the dash camera's firmware settings when a new firmware update is installed is typical of at least the last three VIOFO dash camera models I've tested (T130, A229 Duo, A119 Mini).

Too bad they can't fix that...or maybe they will

It's a PITA to have to reset everything beginning with the WIFI

Does it improve anything / break anything?

On the main, screen you see the time display now includes seconds and the "Car License Number" (in the VIOFO app) or "License Plate Number" (in the firmware settings menu) text is displayed. I put the firmware version in the "Car License Number" field and you can see that in the left/middle of the screen.

Oh, that's interesting then. Mine only arrived the other day and I immediately updated the firmware so I would not notice any difference of course.

I must say I am impressed by the app and the 5GHz Wi-Fi view/download efficiency so far.

Here is a comparison screen of A229 - my mod FW_V1.0_0926IL and it wins!!
All basic settings are the same!!

The last screen of the A139 HDR is turned on and it wins!

How much later?
I give you a quote from user DEX9999 - very useful information.
I can tell you a little about the Auto Event Detection parking mode - earlier in this mode, video recording started when motion was detected in the frame, and when the G-sensor was triggered, it was blocked from overwriting and fell into the RO folder. If there was no movement but there was a blow to the auto, the recording did not start. This was the reason for my appeal, and as a result, version V1.1_1010 appeared where, and for only the G-sensor, the recording now starts too.

Those. the logic of the parking mode is as follows:
The recorder enters the parking mode either immediately when the voltage on the ACC wire of the HK4 fails or after 90 seconds - this is configured in the "Enter Parking Mode Timer" menu.
The parking mode works all the time that is set in the "Parking Recording Duration" menu (if set to "Off", the time is not limited), or until the battery drops below the shutdown threshold HK4.
Video is recorded from 2 cameras.
The parking mode is selected in the "Parking Recording" menu, with the value "Off" the parking mode is disabled.
In the modes of low bitrate (Low Bitrate Recording) and low frame rate (Timelapse N fps) - video recording starts immediately upon entering the parking mode.
In Timelapse modes, no sound is recorded.
When the G-sensor is triggered, the current recording goes to the RO folder to protect it from being overwritten.
In the event detection mode (Auto Event Detection) - recording starts when motion is detected in the frame (there are 3 levels of detection, set in the "Parking Motion Detection" menu) or when an impact is detected (3 levels in the "Parking G-Sensor" menu). There are 15 seconds of video buffer BEFORE the event is defined and another 30 seconds are written after the event - in total, each such video is 45 seconds long.
(by the way, this is my current, not yet realized wish - to take the duration from the one set in the "Loop Recording" menu, since 45 seconds is not enough)
