VIOFO A229 DUO FIRMWARE

Probably a dumb question: Are we supposed to format (erase) the card before updating firmware?
I am not formatting the memory card. I pull it out of the DVR and put the firmware in the root of the memory card and everything works.
But if there are problems, you have to format.

What is the backlog in product development?
The model has been developed and is in serial production. Everything that is stated in the description of the A229 Duo
on the official website of Viofo is present in this model.
Most of the cameras they put on the market got certain features AFTER the release date. A119v3, A119 Mini, even A139 did NOT have HDR feature at the beginning! They added it later same as other features so saying development is closed after a product is released is simply not true when it comes to Viofo.

I have some times had problems getting a new firmware to take to the camera if it is put on the large memory cards i use daily, so i have a few very old and small memory cards i use for firmware upgrade, one of them are just 16 GB which was big when i got it, and i also still have a few 32 GB cards.
I have even used 4 GB cards for firmware upgrade in the past 10 years, but i seem to have misplaced those.

But on some models they don't have the option to add HDR or it doesn't work properly.
Contact Viofo support directly and get an official response from them.

Loader do all work when update firmware from file on SD card. Loader is a small part of firmware so it can't support all types of file systems (FAT, NTFS, EXFAT ...) and not always support some of new high capacity SD-cards with modern transfer protocols. This is a reason why sometimes SD card work properly for video recording but not for firmware update. I use old Class 4 Sandisk 4GB card for updates and never got any faults.

Hey guys, I have an A129 Pro and one of my friends asked me for dashcam recommendations a few months ago. The A229 was not released yet but I did suggest to my friend to wait a bit for the new A229 + HK4 with USB-C as I thought that it would be a more futureproof install than an A129 pro + HK3.
Personally, I'm stuck with the A129 Pro as I've got the HK3 kit installed and can't be bothered to redo the whole install (and I'm super happy with my A129 Pro).

Anyway, he ended up getting the A229 recently and I got to have a look at it and it looks great. Much larger than the A129 Pro but I'm guessing that this is for better cooling. I loved the voice notification when it starts recording. We just quickly powered the dascham via the cigarette lighter to check if the unit was in good working condition. Next weekend my friend is coming over and I'll hardwire it for him. Also noticed the much thinner rear camera cable, definitely a sweet upgrade over the A129 Pri too.

Great to see Viofo getting better and more refined over time.

Thanks for a very nice post, but it has nothing to do with firmware.

I hope viofo adds low-bitrate option for auto event detection on a229 with the next firmware update because AED consumes much storage space like when it rains or snow. And also consumes much power because I'm using low bitrate parking mode. My cellink neo only last 9 hours but with AED it lasts around 12 hours.

I've got the Neo plus the 6800 mAh extension. I've also been using AED with sensitivity set to low, but our car is parked in front of the house (no garage) and our Christmas lights trigger it. So I have to turn off the camera every night before turning on the Christmas lights. But today's the last day of Christmas, so that hassle will be over.

We will adjust the bitrate for auto-event detection in the next version.
And it will add some new features mentioned on the A229 wishlist thread.

Please add adjustable volume level for voice notifications like the A139 Pro.
