Viofo Recommended SSD

Since that last post, I can say I haven't had any issues with the A329S and the Crucial X9.
.
.
The one issue that exists is that the Viofo app is not able to retrieve the videos from the SSD, it just goes into an endless loop and I have to reboot the camera.

App version 3.2.23-202603021912

Firmware VIOFO_A329S_V1.2_250708

I have three Crucial X10's in the 1 TB size. Wish I had more; damn good memory, and I am not surprised they have worked with the A329. I believe a few others have reported success with the X9.

Which Viovo app are you using? The latest is 2.2.2 for the iPhone; this is the one with the nearly all-red icon.

There's a newer firmware version, 2.0 so you might want to try that.

I have refrained from updating the firmware because everything is working as needed minus the app issue.
If I update the firmware, there is always the chance to lose functionality or have something break.

I had good success with this 512GB Verbatim SnapBack SSD costs about £100-£130 off Amazon and I used a USB C Cable 0.5m, USB 3.2 Gen2×2 Cable and I mounted it behind the passenger sunvisor with some dual lock tape, so far all good and the viofo found the SSD and formatted it correctly , that's after I formatted it to ex fat in my laptop, so far so good with no signal loss.

Welcome to they club @Zepps
How come only 512GB SSD, (why not larger capacity)?
Were you just looking to spare the SD Card from operating in hot temperatures inside the camera similar to what @GPak did?
His setup is genius: VIOFO A329S - Remote SD Card
Why only 512gb well considering costs of the SD cards I wanted something with a larger capacity and so started looking at these pssd drives and I had the idea of mounting it somewhere where I could get at it and without the need to run another long wire down the A pillor, and I thought the 1tb was over kill.

The verbatim slapback was thin enough to mount behind the sunvisor and getting a good quality short 50cm cable could avoid this signal loss that many complain about .

Just a couple of photos, basicly the Usb C cables tucks under the HeadLiner and comes out just behind the sunvisor, i can than if i want detach it as i'm using dual lock and view the files on my PC.

Great setup!
The photo shows that the GPS indicator light isn't on.
Can you please confirm that the USB-C 3.2 cable you're using isn't interfering with the GPS signal?

In my case, every USB-C 3.x cable I tried caused GPS interference.
I eventually found a USB-C 2.0 cable (older spec) that worked fine and didn't interfere with the GPS signal.

And, of course, the official Viofo cables for SSDs work without any issues.
(I might be mistaken, but it seems to me that the Viofo cable for the SSD also complies with the USB-C 2.x specification).

This is my screen and I get GPS fine , remember it's only a 50cm cable so might work better than a longer cable .

It's not the length of the cable that causes GPS signal interference.
It's the shielding.
The VIOFO Brand has thicker shielding to prevent GPS signal interference.
Some aftermarket cables do have thick enough shielding, so that's why they're interfering with GPS signal.
But it looks like the cable you have is good.

Apologies if others have mentioned this, but there's a known issue with having a secure USB-C connection on Samsung Shield T7 SSDs--nothing to do with Viofo, but possibly why they've removed the Shield T7 from their recommended SSDs. The 4TB I'm using with my A329TC suffers from this but interestingly my 2TB does not. Even the Samsung cable the drive came with is loose. According to users, either capacity can have the loose connection issue but some have units that are fine. There are complaints from owners about random disconnects as a result from their computers causing data loss/corruption.

In my case I originally used thick rubber bands criss-crossed across the Viofo USB cable right angle end and the SSD itself but now use a more secure magnetic SSD mount from SmallRig that has a cable clamp. Seems to be working okay now after some issues with my cam not recognizing the SSD attached after a "cold" start and having to remove and then reconnect it for it to then be available (same with the rubber bands). I repositioned the SSD so the cable end wasn't touching anything under my dash, so that may have been what corrected that concern.

Hi there.

I’d like to share my experience using the A329 model with the T7 Shield SSD.
For a year and a half, I used a seemingly high-quality USB-C cable for the SSD without ever experiencing any disconnection issues at the drive's port. I eventually swapped it for an official 1.8m Viofo cable because the previous one was causing GPS interference.
However, just a few days after installing the official Viofo cable, I started experiencing SSD disconnections.

I narrowed the problem down to the cable's connector design: the USB-C plug doesn't protrude very far, and the plastic housing immediately behind it is excessively thick. Combined with the fact that the T7 Shield SSD has a recessed port with very little surrounding clearance due to its protective casing, the Viofo cable doesn't seat fully into the SSD's port. It manages to establish a connection initially, but because the fit is so precarious, even the slightest movement causes it to disconnect or results in intermittent, random connection drops.
I solved this by wrapping a couple of layers of electrical tape around both the Viofo cable and the SSD, effectively binding them together so they couldn't shift or separate; months later, it’s still working perfectly.

In my specific case—using a 1TB Samsung T7 Shield—I’d say the cable itself is the culprit for not having a USB-C connector that extends just a few millimeters further.

Regards.

I use an external card-reader and secure the USB-C connector with a rubber band (see the video in the link at the 0:57 mark).
However, I have my own reasons for doing this.
The USB-C cable (including the 1.8m SSD cable supplied by Viofo) connects perfectly to the card-reader and works flawlessly.
But since I tuck the card-reader behind the side panel in the footwell and pull it out by the cable when needed, the rubber band acts as a safeguard against me accidentally disconnecting the cable from the reader.
