Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in.
What a roller coaster ride waiting for the release of the S1-4K Infinite.
I first laid eyes on the S1-4K in the flesh at SEMA (November 5, 2024).
I got to meet Jake Yeom, and have a quick chat to introduce myself as a “hobby dash cam tester” (non-professional / unpaid).
Wait, let me backup.
The whole reason S1-4K is on my radar is due to the success of Vueroid D21-4K 2CH.
And of course Ben, (SafeDriveSolutions).
The D21-4K was the only “true” competition in 2024 for the Viofo A229 Pro in terms of image quality, (especially night time HDR performance).
Pretty much any dash cam will look OK to good during daytime under good lighting conditions.
However, night time HDR performance is the hardest thing to get right, and what separates the men from the boys, (just ask Thinkware, BlackVue, and Red Tiger to name a few).
Two months later I got to meet Jessie Lee, and James Kim at CES Las Vegas (January 9, 2025).
This time we all got to have a 1-2 hour discussion about the S1-4K, (Ben, Robert, Ariel, Matt).
Two months after CES James Kim, and Tuning Engineer (also James) visited the San Francisco Bay Area for test & tuning on our roads, and tiny American license plates (March 15, 2025).
James, and James made a special 60 minute detour and we had another meet up including Robert.
So that brings us to today.
I’ve previously tested five Korean made dash cams, and they all made it to my “Lame Duck List” and were shipped right back to the manufacturer.
GNET G-ON2 (I actually gave this one away)
FineVu GX1000
BlackVue DR900X Plus
BlackVue DR970X
Thinkware U3000
No HDR, unacceptable night time image quality, compatibility issues, proprietary software issues, smartphone APP privacy issues were all factors of aggravation.
Well guess what, I’m pleased to announce S1-4K Infinite has passed the first hurdle of not being nominated for a Lame Duck Award, and flying east for the winter.
S1-4K has succeeded where the other Korean brands failed.
Not only that it’s my top pick to be the only “true” competitor for Viofo A329S 3CH for 2025 in terms of image quality, and night time HDR performance.
Hot off the UPS truck earlier today from US stock my fully finished, retail version with serial numbers, (same as sold to customers on Amazon US) test unit was delivered.
I’ve been trying to get intimate with (2) S1-4K pre-production units since June 24, 2025.
There’s also a few things that drive me up the wall, but that’s due to my own ignorance, stubbornness, and limited technical education.
So far the best thing about S1-4K is Jessie, James, CTO Kim, and the rest of the Vueroid team working tirelessly to get this camera ready for launch.
It feels like they did 2 years of work in 2 months.
If you’re new to DCT, or me I’ll be doing all sorts of silly / unconventional testing.
Power Consumption in weird configurations
Horizontal FOV measurements
Heat Signature measurements with Thermal Imaging Camera
Night Time HDR Comparisons (controlled laboratory / real world driving conditions)
Pendulum Motion Blur Comparisons
Bootup Speed Test / Comparisons
Wi-Fi Download Transfer Speed Tests
And more, if you have any test request in specific configurations just leave them below, and I’ll work them into my schedule.
We’re limited to 5,000 characters so;
Post #3 will be Q&A for first time dash cam buyers.
Let’s gooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
