Hi

A long shot I know but I wondered if anyone has one of these for sale? I have tried contacting the person selling them on ebay and their old email address / scoured ebay and selling sites but with no luck.

Thanks

Shelley

Interesting VCAM story

http://www.vcam.eu/

... Hello
vCam Ltd (registered in England) would like to say "Screw you" to eBay UK, Richmond upon Thames Trading Standards, the Metropolitan Police, the Department of Transport, and Vince Cable (MP for Twickenham, also masquerading as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills), and to warn the UK public about these enemies of British business, the UK economy and HM Treasury

If you're willing to consider other cameras that comply with vCam's point of view, then take a look at Mobius, A118 / B40 / Street Guardian SG9665GM & Panorama X1

Interesting diagram too:

Just checked my mini 0806 dashcam. It is 3.975 cm high thus can go fully into the wiper area behind the rear view mirror and have a clear, rain free view :D

Is that coincidence or by design?

Don't think my rear view mirror complies though, does that have an exception to the rules? - I see a lot of modern mirrors with LDWS cameras behind have huge plastic "mounts" inside the wiped area...

Hi guys, thank you for the advice and finding the link :)

I have actually managed to buy one from a forum member

I wanted it because it came with a solar charger option (I had already managed to obtain the solar charger which went with it). A friend uses this set up and is getting on well with it and I have been impressed with the quality of the video for a cheap camera

Unfortunately as per the link they aren't for sale anymore

Interesting, but not sure I could drive with the sun visor down all the time?

And it looks like a standard USB solar powerbank. A lot of cameras are USB powered and can be run from a standard USB powerbank, is this any different?

Mind you, I'm not sure the battery will last all that long as it's going to get seriously baked in the sun mounted like that...

I see now why they failed, despite the sour grapes story on their website it wasn't because they couldn't shut down the competition, dumb designs aren't going to win you business

Idea is interesting but not practical.
I also had same idea years ago when first saw those solar power bank chargers. Idea was to install it on the front dash and the other on rear panel behind rear headrest and run power cable to two Mobius ( one front , one rear ), but I was not sure how "not-dangerous" would be leaving batteries in locked car under the sun, even here in Ireland if its hot sunny weather ( +22+25 ), it can get very hot inside car.

With set-up like VCam has, I am afraid there will be a lot of vibrations and it is not discrete at all. Even if used this set-up, I would built in inside sunvisor all this system, leaving to outside only camera lens and solar panels, but its diy job for enthusiasts, not average joe.

some up market cars now have solar panels built into the sunroof...

but with modern flexible panels anyone can mount one to the roof supplying well beyond 4000mah - unfortunately I have a cabrio or I would having used and know the benefits on my RV :(

The owner is a bit sick, he is now making jokes about Escort girls. Mark Austin should be his name. :)
