Where did you mount the camera? Post your pictures

I had to mount my SG9665GC down from the top of the windscreen to get the lens within the swept area of the wiper blades. It protruded well below the black dotted area at the top of the windscreen.

I used black vinyl to hide the cable tidy and the camera body. I only thought of this as I saw a post from @Blackdog doing something similar.

  • I marked the area (to be covered with vinyl) accurately on the outside of the windscreen with masking tape.
  • I cut the vinyl to size using a straight edge and a Stanley knife on a sheet of wood.
  • I sprayed the inside of the windscreen and the sticky side of the vinyl with a water and washing up liquid mix. Then I applied the vinyl to the inside of the windscreen (lining it up to the masking tape on the outside of the windscreen). The water and washing up liquid mix allows you to position the vinyl easily.
  • Used a wet cloth to wipe over the vinyl while making sure it stayed aligned with the masking tape.
  • Finally used the scraper with a rubber edge (supplied with the vinyl) to work all the air bubbles to the edge of the vinyl.
  • Left for 24 hours and mounted the camera.

Am pleased with the results and the colour match is good.

Nice one. I think the vinyl approach definitely works well with the SG9665GC when you are unable to position it so that the cable tidy is hidden (i.e. high enough to not need the cable tidy etc).

It takes a lot of effort (well, it did me!) but if done right gives a very professional look, and stealthy.

Only trouble is if you need a new windscreen...got to do it all again! I made a template for mine...spent ages trimming it etc, but now all I need to do is trace the template onto the back of the vinyl and cut. Then use the water/washing up liquid mix to slide it into position and squeegee the bubbles out. Takes a bit of time, but worth it in the end. I messed up my initial goes cos forgot about the water bit, so it was sticking on contact!

Redid the mounts for the rear.

Neodymium magnet + 20° ABS plastic wedge + A119S's angled mount.

Neodymium magnet + 15° ABS plastic wedge.

Stuck the wedge directly to the Mobius. The mounting bracket/sleeve was adding unnecessary bulk.

Both attach directly to the bare metal area where the mounts were previously stuck using 3M VHB.

Magnets are super strong! Cameras remain exactly where attached.

Installed a Thinkware F800 on 2011 Ford Fusion SEL. Seems the best place to mount the camera is on top of the rain sensor cap. The two benefits of that location is that it is off the windshield, which means less direct sun light for cooler operation, and it is very hard to see from the front of the car. I ordered a rear cam and plan to install that later next week.

From the passenger side window you can see how it is mounted on the rain sensor cap.

Here's what it looks like from the front on a very overcast day. I think if the silver lens was instead black it would be completely unnoticeable. I would like some ideas on how to best change the lens cap color to black.

Decided to paint the Thinkware F800 silver lens cap and silver sides black with Rustoleum flat black paint. Same location as above, but now you can not see it. Even from inside the car it blends into shape of the rain cap sensor. Very discreet I think.

Looks good to me but it may not pass the MOT so when that time comes you might want to temporarily remove it ;)

I've now moved mine from left of the mirror originally, onto a small "stealthmount" which was made on a 3D printer, to it's current position of immediately behind the rear view mirror as close to central as I could get it, so the view is also as close to being down the middle as I could manage.

There it gives me this view when i use it:

I intend to install Viofo A119s in my Ford Ecosport. Now keeping all the pointers in mind. I intend to install it behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side over the black dots. Now the issue I am facing is that the width of black dots is thin and if I install the dashcam on it, the cam will be out of Wiper's field of wipe.

1) Shall I install the cam a little lower? (Not on black dots). It gets really hot here in India, considering we have open parking under direct sunlight in my office. Hence, apprehensive about this.

2) Use bigger wipers. Stock are 16'/22'. What is recommended size to upgrade?

3) Install it behind IRVM on driver's side. As wiper's wipe a little better on driver's side.

Few pics from internet for reference.

Driver's side would probably be better, it doesn't look like there's too much clearance on the passenger side between the wiper and the A-pillar in the "down" position

Viofo a119v2 gps and cpl fitted in audi a6. Not much room because of the sensors and cameras. First it was mounted at the top of the windshield, passenger side, but i wanted a more centered footage so it ended where it is now. 20171015_180454.jpg 20171015_175851.jpg 20171015_180333.jpg 20171015_175959 (1).jpg 20171015_180106 (1).jpg 20171015_175940 (1).jpg

GCv2 moved to my wife's Evoque. Awkward shaped sensor unit caused some placement problems, until I changed to a 90-degree USB cable and moved the camera to the passenger side.

old G1W mounted on the passenger side on the roof upholstery. The only minus is that when it's raining the wiper doesn't clean the windscreen in the mounted area.

Any vibration in the video with that kind of setup?

there are normal vibrations, as it would be mounted on the windscreen. Recently i've painted it all with a black marker and it is just a little less visible.
