Hi guys,

I'm planning to get a camera for my motorcycle rides and planning to mount it on my helmet. I'm looking for something cheap and this is what I've come across.

This one has 120 degree FOV:

Nearly identical, this one has 170 degree FOV:

Now I know there's a lot of SJ4000s floating around but these are the ones I found with the biggest sensor at 12 MP and 1920*1080 vid res at 30 FPS. Others had 5 or 3 mp sensors and did full HD at 15 FPS.

Now I'd like to have a larger FOV however I'd like to avoid how a large FOV camera makes things appear farther than they are. I know a lot of it depends upon the lens too which is what has me confused.

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd appreciate if you could shed some light on this.

I'd like to get the 170 FOV, as long as it doesn't make things appear way farther than they actually are.

If it does/would, I think I'd go for the 120 degree FOV.

Would appreciate your responses.

Thanks!

Both are fakes and the quality is not that of an sj4000 by a long shot...

As for 170 vs 120...

depends what you want... personal choice ..

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the reply. yes, I understand they are both fake. I was hoping if someone could provide a good comparison between the two FOV so I have an idea what to expect from them. This is my first helmet camera and I'm still pretty naive in these matters.

The FOV on any of these cameras is rarely ever the real numbers quoted, not a good way to compare them unfortunately

I would not use any of the GoPro lookalikes as a helmet cam, have you considered a Mobius, Drift Stealth, TCL SVC200, or Contour Roam 3.
