Why I Wait When the Light Turns Green

This is why I always wait a few seconds after the light turns green - even if the idiot impatient driver behind me is on his horn.

I don't wait on green. But then again unlike most people I don't stop thinking or driving properly just because my car is stopped I watch the lights for the cross-traffic; theirs will turn yellow a few seconds before I get the green, and when I see that (or usually before) I am looking at what the cross-traffic is doing. I am looking down the road both ways to see if someone is flying along trying to beat the light or who is oblivious to it. If I see what might be a problem, only then do I wait to see what they will do

Otherwise when I get the green I'm going right then, because that will get the most traffic through the intersection in the limited time there is to do that before my light turns yellow again
