why spend $300 when you can get one for $29??

I signed up to whirlpool years ago but gave it a rest until now I again mention 3Coopers ;)

namely blackvue, overpriced crap.

We know you have a problem with Blackvue and some SD cards.

However the SD card you sold me that you had problems with is still going perfectly after all this time so dont know what you were doing that it was a problem.

Also my 4 Blackvue cameras are working perfectly and since I have had them have only had to renew the LiPo battery in 2 of them and also the little memory batteries. The DR500 has been used in temps from -5 to 40+ and has always recorded satisfactorily.
I have recently bought a new DR450 1 ch and it is also working well.
Apart from fixing the batteries I dont play around with them, use stock firmware and format the SD cards about 3 times a year. All of them are running the large capacity cards without problems.

It isnt always the cameras fault.

From the look of it you paid too much for it
its not too bad, you can make out the shapes of trees in daylight and the shape of the cars and know at night time theres a streetlight on, or was that the moon.

Better than my G1W fake @ $21 but nowhere near as good as my G1W-HC's @ $34

There are a few decent cheap cams but you don't start seeing good cams until at twice these prices or more. You don't get what you don't pay for ;)

I couldn't agree more.
That was my first camera.
What a POC.
I think buying a camera of this caliber is a rite of passage.
A quick lesson and a lighter wallet.

Depending on what purpose did you buy dashcam for
if you buy dashcam for parking mode, so Blackvue seems a good choice. But if you dont, then with quality of image of blackvue, it's kind of waste money.

This is what it comes down to. If you aren't going to use parking mode, blackvue (and other high end korean cams) is a waste of money. But some people don't see the value in automatic parking mode. I've known just as many people hit and run in parking lots then been in accidents the last 3 years, I think it's as important as recording on the road personally. I used two blackvue dr650gw-2ch (and a 550 for awhile) for over 2 years, for my "4 channel" set up and the only issue i ever had was once in awhile it would tell me to format the memory card. but then again thats happened with my thinkware f770 and my sgzc12rc too. but when it happened to my sgzc12rc i had no idea how long it wasn't recording because I got no notification for it and the dvr was under my seat.

I know other people have complained about cameras not recording and they had no idea for weeks that it wasnt recording. those audio alerts in many korean cams (and some chinese cams now) are a life saver.

Could you show me some footages about hit and run while parking and this footages can help their owners ?
How many do you can find ?

i don't have any personal footage but alex from @BlackboxMyCar seems to have several just from his customers.

I thought this one was cool, a guy was parked in front of his work and his 650s was connected to blackvue cloud so he got a notification on his phone and ran out side to see the van trying to flee:

this is one of the funnier ones, guy smashes a shopping cart between his car and another car, then accidentally accelerates straight into the cammers parked car:

there are lots (many from blackboxmycar and wowgadgetshop but many others too):

one of my friends had one of my cams in his car, apparently he had an always on 12v socket, and the camera was set to motion detection. his car was parked in front of his house and someone side swipped his car. for whatever reason the camera never captured it, or it didnt record fast enough. this just happened last fall, so the hit and runner got away.

had a co worker 3 years ago who wanted a dash cam, I had just gotten my dr550gw-2ch and i was telling him about how the parking mode works. the next week someone hit and ran his car in his apartment parking lot.

my step dads truck has one of my dash cams, but just a basic forward facing one. someone hit and ran it and he doesn't know when.

my friend last summer had his car hit and run that he just bought. he doesn't have any cams tho.

i keep telling friends, just spend the money on a decent cam (many of them can afford it) but they just think it won't happen to them.

that's my issue, i have had a couple of people come to me for a cam after the event has happened though, then i say i told you so.

Hah, I know a few people that want one but won't buy one even though they could easily afford something like an a118 or G1W like pocket change. I feel like people are resistant to spending money on things they felt they never "needed" in the past.

although I am happy I haven't needed mine, sorta irks me to know ive been using cams for so long and hardly ever catch anything worth sharing haha.

like insurance, dont need it until you need it. then you wish you had it.

Insurance, spare tire and dash cam(s) - all the same. ;)

Insurance is like betting against yourself. You only win if you lose.

Dash cams are like betting against the other guy, so that he ends up being the one that loses. ;)

Not too bad though considering the other option is losing and not betting against yourself.

And we all lose at some point. I know of no one who has never had an insurance claim. It's just a matter of how much we bet (premiums) and how much we win (settlements). If you're one of the lucky one's who never has a major insurance claim you lose on the premiums. Myself I'm not willing to take the chance on not having my house burn down, or having a couple of major surgeries (which I have had), or having my house burglarized (which I have), etc. and risking having to pay out of pocket. I'd rather pay a (little?) bit monthly over time rather than risk the catastrophic loss and payment all at once.

Insurance companies (and casinos) are there to make money - you play, you lose. :( It's just a matter of how much pain you're avoiding (insurance) or fun you're having (casinos) that determines the worth of the investment.

Sure, but it's still betting.
