We are back again with another Sony Starvis 2 offering, this time from Wolfbox. Presented here is the G900 Pro, featuring the 4K IMX678 sensor - and one of the first to be implemented in the rear-view mirror dashcam form factor. Conveniently, it appears there is a plethora of features in this dashcam - namely GPS, 5GHz WiFi, voice control and a IP67 waterproof rear camera with the tried and true favourite, Starvis IMX335. Wolfbox has not opted to provide their own custom image processing algorithms with this dashcam, therefore relying on the noise reduction from the Starvis sensors themselves.
When it comes to the unboxing experience itself, it is a two-tone affair with a black colour scheme adorning the outside with white interior packing contents. An interesting side-note is that the Starvis 2 feature is not advertised anywhere on the box itself - something I have not seen from any brand before. Contained within the box we have the dashcam itself, the rear camera module with wiring (with interior and exterior mounting brackets), GPS bracket, plastic pry tool, rubber mounting straps, and cigarette power light adapter. Also included is a 128GB microSD memory card, already inserted into the dashcam itself - a nice touch, as it is always handy to not have to buy another microSD memory card. Different sizing for the rubber mounting straps is another appreciated touch. There is no included circular polarising lens filter in the basic retail package, but there is the option to purchase it as an add-on.
First impressions of the laminated 12-inch fully-laminated display on the G900 Pro are very positive. While the resolution isn't stated, the legibility and colours are on-point with this display and appear fairly crisp - this is probably the best display I've witnessed on a rear-view mirror dash camera. At first I was curious as to why there is no extendible body, but due to the longer form factor of the G900 Pro compared to other mirror dashcams on the market, I presume it would not be required in this instance. The feel in-hand is solid, with no creaking, and the dashcam itself is not very heavy either - decent build quality is on show here with the G900 Pro.
Installation of the G900 Pro is a reasonably straightforward affair. Due to the multitude of wires running, this dashcam would require some additional work in hiding the cables out of view. Also, while the inclusion of two different mounting screw solutions for the rear camera is appreciated, I can see how this may be potentially confusing for some new users, as the instructions weren't immediately clear in the documentation. Upon starting up the dashcam, the installed firmware was from July 2024 - I did find the website download to upgrade it to it's tested firmware version from October 2024 - 11.241015.0.0.28-A0. My full review on this dashcam, coming up soon.
