Having been introduced to mirror dash cameras recently has been a game changer. For those that aren't aware, mirror dash cams usually go over top of your existing rear view mirror, or even come with equipment to replace the stock rear view mirror entirely. We've been looking into one that comes with an interior cabin camera and came across the G900 TriPro from Wolfbox. This dash cam setup comes with 3 cameras for a 3 channel setup, a 4k front camera (your main camera), a 2.5k rear camera, and a 1080p interior cabin camera.
The package we got also came with a 128GB micro SD card, a lens cover for the main camera, and the hardwire kit. As expected, the box contains a trim removal tool, extra sticky tape for your cameras, mounting bands for the mirror, and mounting clips for wires, so everything you would need for a full installation.
If you've never installed a mirror dash camera before, installation is slightly different compared to a standard dash cam, but it's pretty simple. The kit includes 2 sets of bands that will wrap around your existing mirror, so the new dash cam mirror will go overtop of your existing mirror. Wolfbox does over a conversion kit that allows you to replace your factory standard rear view mirror in place of this dash cam mirror, but we opted for the regular over the top installation. Here you can see pictures of what our rear view mirror looks like in our Honda Pilot vs. what it looks like with the Wolfbox G900 installed over top of it:
Here's a view of the front of the mirror dash cam, with the camera sitting right next to the factory rear view mirror. Plenty of room to move the camera around to any angle that you need:
With a traditional 3 channel dash camera setup, the interior cabin camera is usually part of the main unit. But with this mirror dash camera, the interior camera is actually separate but connects easily with a very short cable. In this next picture you can see the interior camera mounted next to our traditional dash camera:
As expected there's also an app for your phone so you can access the camera directly. Connecting to it was pretty straightforward and also seamless. On the main mirror unit you turn on wifi and connect to that wifi from your phone. Once in the app and connected you'll be able to access the video and photo library, or even view live feed from your dash camera which can be see in the pictures below:
A big advantage to the size of the mirror dash camera is that you have a much bigger screen to view from, which really helps especially when you're using the rear camera! You have the option of choosing to view one camera, 2 cameras, or all 3 cameras:
And finally, let's look at some dash camera footage! Here are some samples from the front dash cam:
And here are some samples from the rear dash camera:
Overall, the Wolfbox G900 Mirror Dash camera is a great dash camera that definitely serves it's purpose. We took a 3 hour round trip to Philly and never had any issues with any of the 3 cameras or the main unit. The addition of the interior camera is a big benefit as we've always liked having a 3 channel dash camera to help cover the inside of the cabin, as well as the standard front and rear cameras. Using the mirror dash cam was very easy and intuitive and once we installed it we did not have to refer back to the manual, everything we needed was easy to find in the menus and easy to access. If you're in the market for a new dash camera and want to try out a mirror dash cam, the Wolfbox G900 may be one that you would want to consider.
