World’s First 3D Printed Electric Car.

Cool ! ! !

Yeah pretty nifty :D

40 something parts - I hope that doesn't mean screws as well?!

Kids that were good with Lego will definitely have an advantage when these 3d printers really hit the mainstream - in fact I might have to go and buy some Duple to get myself reacquainted :)

You don't need screws if you print everything as one part! You only need the seats as separate parts if you want them to be adjustable.

However it says that the engine, tyres, suspension etc can't be printed, so all the most important parts other than the body! Auto manufacturers have been 3D printing prototype body parts for years so I'm not sure what is new other than maybe that it can print the whole body in one go. Or maybe it is the carbon composite printing that is the significant part.

Printing is never going to be the cheap way of making a car body, too slow compared to stamping a sheet of steel once to produce 10 wings or whatever, so I don't think this will ever take off except for specialist vehicles.
