Review:

Xiaomi has finally entered the dashcam market with their first unit, partnered with Xiao Yi. It features their own Yi A12 dual core processor and a 6G glass 165° wide angle lens that is capable of recording in 1080p (max. 60fps) or up to 1296p (max. 30fps). The Xiao Yi DVR has the auto start/stop function and records in 3 minute clips. The unit comes in either grey or gold.

The Xiao Yi DVR houses a 2.7" LCD display with 4 buttons. The buttons are used for basic operation of the unit including changing settings and playback. For more advanced settings, the official "Yi Dashcam" app is a useful tool that connects the unit to your smart device via WiFi.

Video quality from this unit is very good in both day and night due to the "DSP enhanced WDR 3D noise reduction". Details are clear and license plates/road signs are legible even while in motion. Surprisingly, even with such a wide angle FOV, there isn't much distortion/fisheye of the video.

Overall, I have no complaints with this unit, however, GPS capability and a super capacitor would have been welcomed. The unit is constructed of plastic but feels well put together. The design of the unit is well thought out for a seamless install (ie. right angle USB cable for inconspicuous cable management, dual socket cigarette adapter so that the DVR does not hog an entire outlet to itself). There is also an optional adhesive tape mount available, if you prefer a more permanent solution. I did not find the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to be useful, so I left that feature off.

Xiaomi products never seem to disappoint and the Xiao Yi DVR is no exception. At a sub $60USD price point, I would highly recommend this unit to anyone on a budget looking for a simple and great bang for buck dashcam.
