Xiaomi Yi Firmware Caution

Many people may not be aware that there are 6 different hardware versions of the Xiaomi Yi Camera available. They are code named as follows:

• 22
• 22L
• 23
• 23L
• 23A
• 23S

Each hardware version has a DIFFERENT firmware. You can tell the hardware revision of your camera based on the first 3-4 digits of the serial number. For example the serial number should look something like this:

Z221xxxxxxxxxxx = Revision 22
Z22Lxxxxxxxxxxx = Revision 22L
Z231xxxxxxxxxxx = Revision 23
Z23Lxxxxxxxxxxx = Revision 23L
Z23Axxxxxxxxxxx = Revision 23A
Z23Sxxxxxxxxxxx = Revision 23S

The best way to download the proper firmware for your camera is to:

1. Go the Xiaomi Chinese Upgrade Site: http://www.xiaoyi.com/home/upgrade.html
2. Type in your serial number into the the white box
3. Press the blue buttom
4. You should now see a red button to download

The latest firmware as of May 11, 2015 is v1.0.12

Be careful when using a custom firmware because it may be based on different hardware than the camera you have purchased.

revising hardware is very common, specific firmware for different versions though is poor management, no wonder there's so many reports of broken cameras from people updating

I downloaded all version of the firmwares, by making some "fake" serial numbers

The Yi Cam firmware 1.0.12 MD5 check sum is the following:

I am wondering which firmware I am using...normally I upload the "hacked" version, dont know among these firmware which one is based from.
I used the quoted below from the other thread, so far so good, my camera is Z221

Just installed new firmware. No new options in menu available. But filming is now indicated by blinking led ring.
Unfortunatly they did not fix the lens rectification bug . Maybe next firmware update.
Follwing the modified version with higher bitrates. For details see file within archiv. The bitrates are listed there. I used the settings from Evgeniy which are pretty good.

Is it not better to automatically update firmware via the Android app ? As when i turn it on, it says "new firmware available". ( I have formatted a 64 gb card via the camera...so its fat32.
I just thought if I update that way,it would automatically use the right version.
I haven't updated mine yet...as I have noted all the problems updating can seem to cause.

Andy_S: I am using YI App not software for PC. If I want to turn on funcion - automatic shutdown in inactivity, then I get error message - failed to change..

try it via the PC app, if it fails as well, then its the camera bug, if not, then its mobile app bug

I didn't have any issues when I tried this. Using current version (1.4) of IOS app on iPhone 6 with modded version of FW1.0.12 - Z221...
No errors ( that i could discern from the Chinese interface ) and the camera behaved as expected.

I bricked mine by following a wrong guide and updated firmware through app, now all it does is appear to charger the battery but the power button does nothing. I have tried restore buttons no affect.

Which Videomode was active? In high framerate modes, the live view via app will be disabled and on super high framerate mode (that 240ish fps mode) there will be no sound.
