ABEO HDVR-150

ABEO HDVR-150

The ABEO HDVR-150 dash cam clips onto your rear view mirror which makes it quite a discreet dash cam if you have a large vehicle.   Video quality is  good during the day time, and poor to average at night.  The camera has an option to record at 1080p, however the video is interpolated and not true HD.  720p is the preferable setting for this camera.

This dash camera comes with an integrated 2.4″ screen visible on top of the mirror’s surface.  The display can be turned off so that the mirror can be used without any distractions.  The HDVR-150 does not come with G-sensor or GPS

While in theory this camera is great, there have been two primary complaints from owners:

  • The camera is too large.  Many users complain of the large size of this camera.  If you have a larger vehicle it will be ok but on smaller vehicles, the extra large mirror might look out of place
  • Video quality is disappointing.

Only consider if you can accept the above 2 concerns.

Known problems

“Car Crash” in Display

Some owners complain that the words “car crash” is displayed on the screen and the camera does not shut down when power is removed.  There is no know solution for this problem.

Wavy Video

Some owners indicate that the video of the camera is wavy or vibrating.  This might be due to an unstable rear view mirror.

Camera stops recording or freezes

There are many instances of cameras that stop recording or freezes.  Unfortunately it seems like quality control is low on this camera.

Mounting the camera

This camera mounts on top of your existing rear view mirror.  There is no need to remove the existing mirror.

Should I Purchase?

This camera’s “stealth” design makes it an interesting option.  However, before purchasing you should make sure you are willing to accept the inferior video quality and understand that the size might be too big for smaller vehicles.  Also note that there are numerous quality / reliability complaints.   Overall, this camera is ok as a rear view mirror camera but it definitely is not a best buy.
