For serious surveillance, I'd go with a proper WIFI security camera, like a Netgear Arlo etc. Downside: They're not cheap for just a one time surveillance etc. For a cheap solution: Did you know there are smartphone apps with motion detect etc? You could experiment with one and setup your phone...

Yeah .. people love "best" I know. Let's say I want to keep it below say 150 bucks. I need it stealthy and small, so it can hide nicely .. either with a small suction cup for mount or soemthing, otherwise sticker ... or I'll 3D print something myself. As long as the cam is reliable and small...

A7L-A? The Ambarella Website only talks about A7 and A7L ... and for the A7/L, the spec sheet says: "and High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing" So what's an A7L-A? And what do they mean by HDR processing? Is that with a high read out sensor and they read two frames per one picture, to form a 30...

After reading some more ... I think I need an Ambarella A7L in my cam at least .... combined with a high range and fast-readout sensor, so it can do 60 FPS if needed. :)

"8 MP, interpolated 12 MP" .... I get the heebie freebies if I see such "digital zoom" crap messages. Also, I don't know, what a "WDR Effect" is supposed to be ... you need a good nonlinear sensor to have that already at the source .. you might also do some funky postprocessing to get a HDR...

Does it have enough power to do postprocessing denoising etc? That sounds really interesting, since I saw those 3D-DNR images ... especially along with the WDR sensor. That would maybe keep costs down a bit, if there's no need for another postprocessign chip?

I see ... A7 would be really nice, because it can do a lot of FPS, combined iwth a good WDR sensor ... which make a dashcam ideal also for activity stuff. I'm unhappy with image quality on most dashes ... they very often overexpose sky, which I want to be decent blue etc, I need something, that...
