For Linux there is Openshot: http://www.openshot.org/ which will take advantage of multi-core cpu's. I found it a little un-intuitive at the start, but it seems to be work well. There may be a version for Windows and Mac by the end of the year.

Hi, on page 2 of the manual that came with my DVR207 it says: "Note: only use the output power for 5.5V" I assume the DVR027 would be the same. Hope that helps!
