IIWEY T1

IIWEY T1

The IIWEY T1 is a 3 channel dash cam which records the front, rear and interior of a vehicle. Three channel cameras have been gaining popularity, particularly with rideshare drivers. This cam was released in Jan 2021 by the Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen Nordistech. What makes the IIWEY T1 unique is its ultra low price of $100 for a 3 channel system.

From a hardware perspective the manufacturer does not disclose the processor. They do indicate the camera uses a Sony STARVIS IMX307 CMOS sensor for the front camera but provide no details on the interior or rear camera. We have not been able to validate if this camera actually uses a Sony sensor.

Note this camera looks identical to the FocuWay M1 Dual Dash Cam. The FocuWay M1 records 1080p for the interior and does not have a separate rear camera. The IIWEY T1 adds a 480p rear camera but reduces the interior resolution to 720p.

Video Quality

The low cost of this camera can be seen in the video quality. The front camera records 1080p video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 10 Mbps. Video quality for the front camera during the day is below average. At night, the video is quite poor particularly in poorly lit areas.

The interior camera, which shoots 720p video, is also below average. The lens is zoomed in making it very difficult to record the rear seats, not ideal for a rideshare camera. There is no way to reduce the zoom.

The worst camera of the 3 is the rear camera with 480p video. This is low quality both day and night, regardless of conditions. Note that the rear camera is waterproof and can be mounted on the exterior of the vehicle.

Overall the IIWEY T1 disappoints across the board on video quality.

Features

The camera has a 2″ screen, g-sensor but does not have GPS. At this price point for a 3 channel system, there is no expectation of additional features such as WiFi or supporting smartphone apps. The T1 provides non-buffered parking mode if you hardwire the dash cam to your vehicle (optional hardwire kit required).

The camera comes with a suction mount for the front camera and an adhesive mount for the rear camera. There are numerous reports of the camera falling off the mounting bracket. Also the adhesive for the rear camera is poor and does not stick will.

On the positive side the camera can swivel 360° to record interactions at your side windows (i.e. police traffic stop). IIWEY also provides a 32GB microSD card with the camera. 32GB is quite small for a 3 channel camera and fills up quickly. While the specs indicate 128GB cards are supported, the camera appears to be picky with cards over 32GB.

The IIWEY T1 is a medium sized camera at 115 x 50 x 45mm. The build quality is average but it is better than some other low budget cameras. Unfortunately the T1 does not come with audio error notifications. It does provide error notifications on the screen but these can easily be missed by the driver.

While the operating temperature of the T1 is not disclosed, the user manual indicates not to expose the camera to the sun when parked in hot weather. We are surprised to see this warning as most people leave the dash cam mounted on the windshield. Removing the camera on hot, sunny days is an extra pain to deal with for this camera.

Support

IIWEY does have a website but currently it is quite limited. It allows you to register your dash cam to extend the warranty from 12 months to 18 months. That being said, outside of the 30 day Amazon return window, support has not been the greatest for this camera. No firmware updates are available for this camera as well.

Known Problems

Abnormal Card Speed

One of the most reported problems with the IIWEY T1 is the error message “Please replace the card if the card speed is abnormal”. This implies there is something wrong with the Micro SD card but owners indicate this problem persists with different cards. Try using 32GB cards as larger cards may have issues with this camera.

Corrupt Files

Some owners have indicated video files are not playable or corrupt. Check your videos regularly and if you get this message, look at replacing your Micro SD card.

Sample Videos

There are numerous videos and reviews on Youtube for this camera. Video quality across all three cameras is below average.

Should I Purchase

The IIWEY T1 is one of the cheapest 3 channel dash cams on the market. Beyond the low price, this camera does not have much going for it. Video quality is disappointing and reliability is not great. Adding in the warnings to remove from windshield on hot sunny days, is a deal breaker as well. Would look elsewhere for a 3 channel camera.
