Otovoda B-T50

The Otovoda B-T50 is a Chinese dual channel dash camera released in Jun 2023. This dual dash cam is popular on Amazon and has many positive reviews.

The Chinese manufacturer behind the Otovoda brand used to sell their cameras under the CHORTAU brand. However that brand was banned from Amazon as they provided incentives to buyers in exchange for positive reviews. These dash cams are back on Amazon under the Otovoda brand name.

Unfortunately Otovoda does not provide the processor and CMOS sensor specs for the B-T50. Given the low price point of this dual camera, we suspect entry level hardware is being used.

Video Quality

The front camera records 1440p (Quad HD) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 12 Mbps. Video quality for the front camera during the day is average and night quality is below average. Given the low quality of the video we suspect the 1440p video is actually interpolated..

The rear camera records 1080p video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 8 Mbps. Unfortunately the video quality is significantly worse for the rear camera. It is below average during the day and poor at night. This does not look like 1080p recording. While the rear camera can be mounted outside the vehicle, the waterproofing appears to be minimal with a water entry point where the cable enters the camera.

Features

Otovoda B-T50 comes with a 3″ screen, g-sensor but does not have GPS. The camera comes with WiFi and uses the OKCAR app on Android and iOS. Unfortunately the app is very basic, has poor reviews and many users complain of connectivity issues.

The Otovoda B-T50 comes with a suction mount and can swivel 360° to record interactions at your side windows (i.e. police traffic stop). The B-T50 is a medium sized camera at 80x45x15mm but the hanging rectangular shape is not discreet. The build quality is not the best and the camera feels cheaply made.

The B-T50 provides non-buffered parking mode if you hardwire the dash cam to your vehicle (optional hardwire kit required). On the positive side, the camera comes with a 64GB MicroSD card which should eliminate a common source of complaints from owners.

Support

Otovoda does not have a website and provides very little support for this camera. There do not appear to be any firmware updates since the camera has launched. Otovoda provides a 12 month warranty, which is standard for most dash cams.

Sample Videos

There are numerous videos and reviews on Youtube for this camera. During the day time video quality might be acceptable to some users but most will be disappointed. Night video is significantly worse. Rear camera is poor across the board.

Should I Purchase

The Otovoda B-T50 is a cheap dual cam popular on Amazon. While the price is attractive, the camera is not great. Video quality is poor and build quality is not the best. Invest a bit more for a better quality dash cam.
