The Anker Roav DashCam S1 is a single channel dash cam released in Aug 2018 by the Chinese manufacturer Anker. This dash cam is popular on Amazon and has many positive reviews.
The camera uses a Novatek NT96660 processor and Sony Starvis CMOS sensor (the specific model number is not disclosed). The S1 is an upgrade to the Anker C1 and looks almost identical. The S1 has GPS and a Starvis sensor, the C1 does not.
Video Quality
The Anker Roav DashCam S1 records 1080p video at 60fps with an average bitrate of 19 Mbps which is pretty high. Video quality during the day is very good and night quality is above average. Most owners will be pleased with the video quality from this camera.
Features
The camera has a 2.4″ screen, g-sensor and has built in GPS. The camera comes with WiFi and has apps for Android and iOS. Anker has one of the highest rated dash cam apps and works very well. Note that downloading videos takes a long time with all dash cam apps. The quality of the app is a big positive.
The Anker Roav DashCam S1 provides non-buffered parking mode if you hardwire the dash cam to your vehicle (optional hardwire kit required). The camera is one of the few that come with audio and screen error notifications which is a great feature. The camera also comes with a 32GB microSD card.
The S1 comes with an adhesive mount and like most wedge shaped cameras, cannot swivel to record interactions at the driver or passenger windows. The Roav DashCam S1 is a small camera at 87 x 65 x 36mm and can be discreetly installed given its wedge shape.
While build quality appears to be good but some owners complain that a 90 degree USB cable would be preferred for a cleaner install. Another complaint is that the audio quality is not the greatest for this camera.
Support
Anker appears to be responsive to questions and has adequate support. They also provide firmware updates which is a positive as well.
Known Problems
Swelling Battery
The most common problem with this camera is the swelling battery. This was a problem with the C1 camera and appears to be a problem with the S1. Unfortunately the camera does not appear to be suited to hot environments.

Should I Purchase?
While not the most affordable, the Anker Roav S1 seems like a great dash cam. At first glance, it has a lot of positives including:
- Good video quality
- GPS
- WiFI with a good app
- Audio error notifications
- Included microSD card and somewhat familiar brand name
Unfortunately the S1 has not proven to be reliable with the swelling battery problem its biggest drawback. We suggest looking at other cameras.
