The SGGCX2PRO is the latest single-channel dash camera released from Street Guardian. The camera is very similar to the front camera of the popular SG9663DC dual camera. The camera uses the Novatek 96663 processor and Sony STARVIS IMX291 sensor. The SGGCX2PRO records 1080p 60fps at 18Mbps allowing the camera to produce excellent video quality during the day and very good at night.
A rear camera can be added to the SGGCX2PRO as well. The SGR291CAM rear camera has the same Sony STARVIS IMX291 sensor as the front and produces very good video as well. Also available is the SGR323CAM rear camera based on the lower quality Sony IMX323 sensor (not STARVIS). The SGR291CAM is the better rear camera. Street Guardian is looking at creating additional compatible rear cameras which may include a waterproof version. Note that when you run the SGGCX2PRO with a rear camera, the maximum resolution is 1080p at 30fps instead of 60fps.
The camera uses a wedge shaped design and size is not too big at 72mm x 45mm x 35mm. The SGGCX2PRO comes with a 1.5″ screen, external GPS and CPL filter. The camera supports MicroSD cards up to 400GB and will let you know if there are any issues with the card with an audible warning. Given that a large number of dash cam problems are caused by MicroSD cards, this warning is quite useful to ensure that the camera is actually recording.
The SGGCX2PRO can be hardwired to your vehicle using the SGX2HW hardwire kit. This kit allows time lapse parking mode with the option of 1FPS, 3FPS or 5FPS recording. The camera does not have buffered parking mode or Wifi.

The SGGCX2PRO also comes with a 2 year warranty if you register the camera with Street Guardian within 21 days of purchase. You can see there attention to detail by looking at the full set of accessories provided with the SGGCX2PRO in the image below.
The SGGCX2PRO has been recently released and there haven’t been any major issues reported.
A couple of owners have indicated the audio volume is low. A firmware update increasing the gain was implemented to rectify this problem.
Should I Purchase?
From a video quality perspective, the SGGCX2PRO is one of the best dash cams on the market today. The camera is small, discreet, has good build quality and initial reliability is good. Also Street Guardian provides the best support for their cameras pre and post sale, including a 2 year warranty if you register your camera with them.
The ability to add a rear camera and have time lapse parking mode using the hardwire kit are two great options as well. Only drawbacks are the lack of buffered parking mode and no Wifi. Price is not the cheapest at $190, but cameras at lower price ranges don’t offer the same quality control or customer support. Overall an excellent buy for a premium camera.
