The Vantrue N2S is a Chinese dual channel rideshare camera released in Nov 2020. This appears to be an upgrade to the Vantrue N2 Pro, a popular rideshare dash cam. While the camera is advertised as shooting 4K, this is not the native resolution.
Unfortunately Vantrue does not disclose what processor that this camera uses. For the front camera, the N2S uses a Sony STARVIS IMX335 CMOS sensor but the CMOS sensor for the interior camera is not disclosed. The important point is that the IMX335 is a 5MP sensor and does not support 4K video, which requires at least an 8MP sensor.
Video Quality
The 4K video (3840 x 2160P at 25FPS) that this camera shoots with the front camera only is interpolated and video quality is no better than the lower 1440p resolution. When using both the front and interior cameras, the front camera records 1440p (Quad HD) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 13.9 Mbps. Video quality for the front camera during the day is very good but not the greatest. Night quality is average and not the best when compared to other cameras.
The interior camera records 1440p (Quad HD) video at 30fps with an average bitrate of 10.2 Mbps. There are also 4 infrared lights that illuminate the cabin at night. The interior camera has very good video during the day and the night quality is good for the front seats but average for rear seats.
Features
The Vantrue N2S has a 2″ screen, g-sensor and has built in GPS. Unfortunately the camera does not come with WiFi or supporting smartphone apps. The N2S provides non-buffered parking mode if you hardwire the dash cam to your vehicle (optional hardwire kit required).
The camera comes with a suction mount and can swivel 360° to record interactions at your side windows (i.e. police traffic stop). The N2S is a not the smallest camera at 108 x 44 x 44mm and not the most discreet given the large suction cup mount. That being said, many people like the all-in-one design of this type of rideshare camera.
On the positive side, build quality is very good and reliability has been good as well. Unfortunately the N2S does not come with audio error notifications. It does provide error notifications on the screen but these can easily be missed by the driver.
Support
Vantrue appears to be responsive to questions and has adequate support. They also provide firmware updates which is a positive as well. Vantrue also provides an 18 month warranty when registering the dash cam, which is better than most dash cams.

Should I Purchase
The Vantrue N2S is an improvement over the popular N2 Pro rideshare camera. The positives include the use of a capacitor, good build quality and 18 month warranty. The video quality while not the greatest will be acceptable for most people. Some negatives include lack of Wifi with a supporting app, no audio error notifications and price is a bit on the high side. Overall, not a bad rideshare camera and worth consideration if you like the form factor.
