My DVR 027 finally came in yesterday everything seems to work great on it except for the suction cup I can't get it to stay attached to my windshield at all. Any suggestions?

Did you use the lever once the suction cup is in place? That will usually lock it to the windshield.

Mine came with a thin protective plastic film you had to remove. Mine sticks to the windshield like nobody's business!

The secret to that suction cup sticking is ensuring that air can't be sucked back in under the cup.

1) Clean the suction cup and glass location where it will end up.
2) Spread the thinnest layer of petroleum jelly on the cup that you can. I used a small amount of hand sanitizer and that worked also.

It's been a little cold lately does that factor in?
Yes, below the freezing point. Place the cup when the car interior is warm and the windshield has a temperature above the freezing point.

Well the sun came out today and thing got a little warmer so I tried it again . Looks like it's stuck on there pretty good now.

I've given up on window suction cups...

I have found high temp velcro works well once the window suction cup fails.

I have same exact issue. Told seller on eBay about issue and got response that I will receive replacement for that par.

Got mine to stick by putting a thin layer of germ X on the suction cup and letting it dry before I tried applying it to the wind shield.

I had a suction cup shatter apart on me and was able to use velcro to keep things together until a new one arrived i don't know how it would hold up in the heat, but it took slightly below freezing rather well.

You can also use regular Velcro (TM REG'D) and attach it to the glass with clear silicone sealant/glue. You'll need the kind of Velcro (TM REG'D) with no glue on the back (the sew-on kind, or remove the glue with solvent and roughen the surface). The silicone is easily enough cleaned off the glass if needed.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I noticed that on the locking lever works best when you lock it up. Locking towards the top of the windshield. It works the other way as well, but I found it locks better when you move the lock lever up.

Once you get the suction cup to stick. Is it best to leave it on the windshield? Or, will constant pressure on it cause it to wear out? I had TomTom GPS on my dashboard for a few months and it eventually lost suction. Is it better to take it off once in a while?

I also struggled with the suction cup mount falling off. I tried cleaning it and the window, using petroleum jelly, saliva, nothing seemed to work. I looped the power cord around the mirror arm so that the camera wouldn't crash into the dash when it fell off.

The second time that I cleaned both surfaces with rubbing alcohol, the suction cup seems to be working now and it hasn't fallen off in a few days.

I was thinking that an alternate mount might be more reliable, something like this visor mount:

or possibly a modified bicyle mount that could attach to the mirror arm:

it could also incorporate a quick-release like a camera tripod.

You have to lick it. It helps if you have really sticky spit. Mine takes a lickin' and keeps on stickin'. :)

Although my suction cup seems to be holding well, in California the law only allows for windshield mounting in the lower corners [EDIT] and in the top center; mounting elsewhere is just a ticket waiting to happen. I like your rear view mirror clamp idea, but wonder if that one is long and articulated enough to allow for proper positioning, as the mounting hole is towards the front of the camera. I just looked at every camera mount on amazon, and this one seems like it might work: http://www.amazon.com/PEDCO-P-UCA-Pedco ... B000ABB4HC

Plus, good idea on the quick release. This one looks suitable: http://www.amazon.com/Tamrac-ZipShot-Tr ... B005E65BK4

[EDIT] I just received the above hardware, installed it, and it worked out perfectly, and no big obvious suction cup on the windshield. :D
