G1W shutting down when card inserted

No clue why but my camera today had say "insert card" but a card was present. When I have took it and put it back camera is shutting down. I have unplugged from a power source and still is doing that. Tested with two different memory cards - same result.

Any clue what is going on?

It must be something with a mechanism (micro sticks) on the side of SD slot which notify that a card was inserted
 
Battery version? Will it hold any charge when unplugged?
